Arabella's POV
"This is Cedric's owl." I spoke quietly, immediately recognising the bird with it's tiny yellow scarf around it's neck.
George remained silent as I stared at the envelope in my hands, wondering whether I should open it. I turned to George for some reassurance, noticing his clenched fists and his tensed jaw.
I gave him a small smile, attempting to make him relax but it didn't work. Nervously, I ripped open the envelope and pulled out the letter. My eyes skimmed the page, tracing my finger delicately over the writing.
My eyes widened at Cedric's words, my cheeks flushing red from embarrassment with George stood only a metre or so away. I reached the end of the letter, clearing my throat and looking out to the window, hoping George wouldn't notice my reaction. But of course he did.
"What did he say?" he muttered, sounding as though he was gritting his teeth.
I anxiously turned my head to him, "George, honestly it's-"
"I said, what did he say Arabella?" His voice became lower, and more stern. I met his eyes cautiously, his own eyes appearing dark as he raised he brow.
I bit my nervously, sighing heavily through my nose, still not saying a word. George soon became impatient, striding over to me and pulling the letter from my grip.
"Let's read it shall we?" He muttered sarcastically, clearing his throat so he could read out loud.
Dear Arabella,
I hope this letter finds you well. Merry Christmas.
I wasn't going to write you but I couldn't help it. I can't stop thinking about you.
I've had some more time to reflect on my actions and I realised I never deserved you, or your genuine kindness. You're such an angel.
I want you to know that I've changed, and I wish to prove it to you. I was so stupid and I know that now. You're what I want.
I was pleased to find out I'll be attending the Weasley's New Years party with my father this year. Please, if you can slip away from your twins for five minutes, come talk to me. I really want to speak with you in person.
Until then, I hope you enjoy the rest of the holidays Belle, I'll be thinking of you.
Cedric.
George finished reading, his teeth gritting once more as he ended with Cedric's name. His whole face screwed up, glancing at the letter one more time before carelessly throwing it on to his drawer.
"Is he fucking joking?" he snapped, running his hands through his hair as I noticed his chest rising up and down at a fast rate.
I timidly approached him, placing my hand into his and bringing his gaze down to mine. This immediately reminded me of when Cedric had approached us a while back, and how George got so angry with him. Just like before, his harsh features began to soften once his eyes met mine, his hand slowly releasing the tight grip on his hair and coming down to my other hand.
"I'm just-" George sighed, "I'm just sick of him trying to get to you, it drives me mad."
"I know love," I spoke almost in a whisper, bringing my hand to cup against his cheek and rub small circles on his skin with my thumb.
"Don't let it get to you," I continued, "I'll just speak to him on New Year's and let him know that-"
"You're not going anywhere near him Belle." George interrupted, his stern voice reappearing. I rolled my eyes, removing my hand from his face and heading back own to the owl to send it on it's way.
