I woke up at about nine and made my way to the kitchen, today was my day off from work so I was planning on just hanging out alone. That was until someone knocked on my door.
I was wearing a sports bra and leggings because that was the first thing I found on the floor. I made my way to the door and was completely surprised by what I saw. It was one of my coworkers, her name is Ophelia.
"Um, hi?" I greeted her a little confused.
"Hey, I just came by to return this." She held out my sweater that I left at work when I was last there.
Ophelia was a year older than me, she had sandy blond hair that she kept at chin length with wispy bangs. She had full eyebrows and a sharp jawline. I often found myself admiring her style. She wore what made her feel good no matter what people had to say about it. I snapped out of my daze and looked up at her. We were coworkers but a little more. Glances that lasted just a little too long, shivers up my spine whenever our fingers brushed against each other. You could cut the tension with a knife.
"Is that all you needed?" She nodded "ok, thank you then." I started closing the door but she stopped be with her foot. I looked at her, puzzled.
"Um, I was wondering-as long as you're not busy-if maybe you wanted to get a cup of coffee with me?" She looked incredibly nervous, which was uncharacteristic for her. I smiled at her.
"Are you asking me out?" She blushed before answering.
"Um, yes? I mean it's fine if you say no, I don't even know if you like girls."
"I do like girls and I would love to go on a date with you." We smiled at each other for a second before she spoke.
"So, um does now work? Or do you want to plan something else or..."
"Uh, I think now works. Can I change real quick though?" She nodded and I walked into my room. As soon as I got to my room, I had a mini celebration I jumped up and down and squealed silently. I quickly got some clean clothes out and threw them on. I inspected myself in the mirror, running my hand through my hair, it was growing back nicely. I walked out of my room and into the living room where Ophelia was holding a picture of Peter and I. She quickly put it down before looking up at me.
"How do you know Peter?"
"Oh, I don't even remember how we met. It been so long. He's basically my only friend." God, that sounded sad. "How do you know him?"
"We go to school together. Where do you go to school?"
"Oh, I'm not in school. I graduated last year." She looked amazed.
"That's so cool, I want to graduate early but at thirteen? Damn." I smiled sheepishly before walking out the door and holding it open for her. We start walking to a café, not the one we work at though. It's my day off so why would I want to got there?
We walk into the café and I'm already in love. I can tell this is the kind of place where all people are welcome. There's both a pride flag and a BLM flag hanging on the farthest wall. There's relaxing music playing and the corner is filled with comfy looking furniture. Wow.
Ophelia notices me staring at everything and asks if I'm good, I nod before she pulls me up to the cashier. She orders first, she gets an iced latte and I order a chai tea latte. We get our drinks and sit next to each other on a cushy couch.
"So, (Y/N). Tell me about yourself." She looks at me with her piercing grey eyes.
"What do you want to know? Do you want to hear about my favorite animal or do you want me to completely over share?" I take a sip of my hot latte and look up at her.
