"Guess what." I sit down next to dad in the lab.

"I'd rather not." He responds, not looking up from his work.

"Rude. Peters decathlon team is coming here for a field trip today." He almost falls out of his seat.

"Why didn't anyone tell me this?"

"I don't know, I was only told this morning."

"I have to go tell everyone to act appropriate today."

"Good luck with that."

He hugs me and kisses the top of my head before leaving the lab.

I take his seat and start fiddling with the wires, correcting his mistake.

"You're quite good at that." I jump out of my skin and look for the source of the voice. I see a bald man with round glasses.

"I didn't mean to frighten you." He speaks with an accent that I don't recognize.

"It's fine, I just don't usually see anyone else until he lab this early."

"I'm just passing by." He walks closer to me. "I'm glad your father didn't waste it."

"Waste what?"

"His life." The man tells me. "That was the last thing I ever told him 'don't waste your life'. I can see he listened."

"You're dead?"

"Yes."
