practice that day had gone pretty smoothly, as there wasn't much difference in practice today than there was in normal practices, though washijō seemed to have a shorter fuse than he usually did, which wasn't exactly a surprise for the team. they were used to this, he was known as the demon coach, after all.

but thanks to his shorter fuse, the team had done a whole lot more conditioning during practice, rather than drills, which was nothing new. whenever coach washijō had a shorter fuse, he found more and more things to nitpick about how the players were going through drills, which led to lines, laps around the gym, or even one hundred meter sprints if he was really feeling annoyed. today, it had mostly been laps, which was definitely tiring, especially considering how little air circulated throughout the gym and the weather outside being rather humid.

thanks to the unforgiving circumstances in which the team had practiced in, it meant that kawanishi and shirabu were more tired than usual, both ready to collapse if not for the plans they had made with kaiya after practice. so that's how they found themselves, completely exhausted, standing face to face with the ravenette.

having changed her own attire from the tracksuit she was usually forced to wear by washijō, to "show a bigger sense of unity" between the team and their manager, into a much more comfortable pair of jean shorts and a crop top with her hair in a ponytail and a camera around her neck, she was ready to go.

smiling lightly at their pair, having noticed their completely exhausted state, kaiya felt like her assignment could wait for tomorrow. "wow, washijō-sensei really did a number on you guys today, huh? my assignment can wait for tomorrow. did you guys want to just hang out and maybe we could watch a movie or something instead? something lowkey rather than hanging out in the park."

both boys shared a look before turning to kaiya with an exclamation of "please!"

this made kaiya laugh softly, nodding her head at the boys. "alright, i can go back to my dorm and get some snacks, too, if you guys want," kaiya added as the trio headed to shirabu and kawanishi's dorm.

"no, i think we have snacks in our own dorm," kawanishi replied, a thoughtful look on his face.

"yeah, we should be fine," shirabu agreed, grabbing the key from his bag and unlocking their dorm room.

upon opening the door, one could immediately tell from the smell and the mess that two guys lived there, with clothes strewn across the floor and food wrappers overflowing from the garbage can.

"oh god, you guys, really?" kaiya muttered, scrunching her nose at the sight before her, either out of disgust or annoyance, neither boy could tell.

shirabu and kawanishi shared a look, turning away from kaiya, kawanishi in embarrassment and shirabu in annoyance.

"well, whatever, just- choose a movie and start it, i know you guys are both extremely tired, i'll- i'll clean up a bit, i guess," kaiya mused, shooing the boys to the couch where they could pick a movie on netflix. then she started about tidying up the dorm room, cringing inwardly at just how disorganized and dirty the room was.

humming quietly to herself, kaiya opened the cabinet that held the cleaning supplies, taking out the clorox spray, a towel, and gloves she had stored for times such as these. slipping the gloves on, kaiya went about her normal routine (this wasn't the first time she'd cleaned their dorm room), picking up clothes and throwing them in the hamper the boys shared, spraying every surface she could find, and then, once she had finished, grabbed the snacks the boys had forgotten about and headed over to the couch, smiling softly at the fact that kawanishi was fast asleep.

his head resting on the armrest, kawanishi seemed really comfortable in his current position, so trying not to disturb him, kaiya draped a blanket over his sleeping form before sitting next to shirabu, who was sat next to the opposite armrest of kawanishi.

grabbing for the popcorn, shirabu started munching away on it as he watched the movie, casting occasional glances at kaiya as the movie progressed.

of course the boys had to pick a horror movie, and of course it had to be the scariest one on netflix.

kaiya hated horror movies, absolutely despised them, so the fact that she was sitting there, watching the movie with shirabu (though there was a lot of anxious jumping and covering of the eyes), was a huge surprise to the setter.

at first he didn't do much about it, deciding that maybe ignoring kaiya would work, but as soon as she yelped and curled into a ball beside him, that was when he couldn't ignore her anymore. placing the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table in front of the couch, he got up to grab a blanket and then draped it over the girl, effectively blocking the tv from her sight. but as soon as he realized that wasn't enough, she had emerged from under the blanket to cling onto shirabu's arm, digging her head into his shoulder to ineffectively block out the sight and sound of the tv.

shirabu, glaring down at kaiya, was about to shake her off when he found that she was trembling from how scared she was. so, deciding against prying her off of him, shirabu simply let her be, pulling the blanket up to her shoulders in the hopes that if she fell asleep she would let go of him.

near the end of the movie, shirabu felt the grip on his arm loosen, which he guessed must have meant kaiya had fallen asleep, though her grip didn't loosen enough for him to move. so, resigned to staying in his spot, shirabu put on a different show, one that he, kawanishi, and kaiya often found themselves watching after tiring practices or long days, as it was the rare show all three of them enjoyed.

about one episode in, shirabu found himself drifting to sleep, the weight of kaiya on his right pushing him towards the armrest on his left, so now he was somehow mirroring kawanishi, though he had the added weight of kaiya, whereas all kawanishi had was the blanket.

about two episodes in, kawanishi woke up, slowly at first, groggy from his long nap. but as soon as he realized what was playing on the tv, he was wide awake, excited to be watching one of his favorite shows. when an interesting part came up, he glanced over excitedly at shirabu, only to notice both he and kaiya were somehow cuddled together, both asleep. and at first it didn't register in his mind, so he barely paid heed to the pair. but then he realized what was happening to his right, that kaiya and shirabu were cuddled together and fast asleep, and when he realized this, a big, evil smile lit up his face and he quickly, sneakily took a picture of the pair and sent it to the group chat.

when the pair woke up, they'd be in for a big surprise.
