the moment everyone in the group chat said they'd be going was the moment kaiya knew she'd end up broke for the month. she got a hefty allowance from her parents (and her aunt, this allowance kept a secret from her parents) for keeping her grades up as they knew just how hard she worked to keep her grades up as well as being the manager for the volleyball club. sometimes her sister found her crazy for going to shiratorizawa, keeping her grades up, continuing to tinker with her hobby whenever she had free time, and manage a well known volleyball team — not that kaiya blamed her sister. sometimes kaiya found herself crazy for doing all of it. but hey, she enjoyed each and every thing she did, she wouldn't change any part of her life if she were given the option.

"kaiya-chan, are you sure about this?" shirabu was asking, referring to kaiya's spur of the moment decision to pay for everything entirely by herself.

"yes, i'm positive," kaiya replied, handing the cashier the money for the groceries. the cashier took it, doing her job as best she could with a stubborn manager and two irritated volleyball players glaring at each other in front of her till.

"here's your change, have a nice day," the girl smiled weakly, wary of the situation she was interrupting by handing back the money to the ravenette. "we hope to see you again," she finished, sighing in relief when the trio, who were still glaring at each other, walked away from her till.

"you have a nice day, too, ma'am!" kaiya called back, breaking eye contact with shirabu to send the girl a kind smile and a wave, earning a hesitant smile and wave back.

the walk back to campus was mostly spent in silence, kaiya and shirabu seemingly having a silent yelling contest from the looks they kept shooting each other as they walked side by side. ushijima was simply walking behind the pair, watching the duo as they continued to stare each other down. whether he was finding the pair annoying or amusing, you wouldn't be able to tell, he was, after all, entirely deadpan almost all the time.

"thank you for coming with us, ushijima-san," kaiya thanked the captain, smiling kindly at the ace when all the grocery bags they'd been carrying were set down on the counter of shirabu and kawanishi's kitchen.

"it was no problem, but i cannot let you pay for everything by yourself," ushijima stated, grabbing his wallet from his back pocket and pulling out a good amount of yen, holding it out to the ravenette, expecting her to take it.

"i said i would get it, you really don't need to worry," kaiya replied, pushing the money back towards him.

"kaiya, now is not the time to be difficult," ushijima stated, holding the money out to kaiya expectantly.

"but i- wh- fine," kaiya murmured, hesitantly taking the money from the ace and stuffing it into her wallet, shirabu casting the ace a questioning look.

how was ushijima able to convince kaiya to take his money and he wasn't? maybe it had to do with the fact that it was ushijima that was forcing kaiya to take the money. shirabu would need to learn that trick before ushijima left.

"taichi, what the heck are you doing?" kaiya questioned as kawanishi dug through all the bags in search of his requested chips and top the tater.

"you got it, didn't you? please tell me you did," kawanishi muttered, digging through the bags until he found his snack.

"you're going to share that, right?" kaiya laughed, shaking her head at the middle blocker. at his hesitant nod, she could only shake her head, not believing a word kawanishi was saying.
