Third Person POV
Avery sat in the middle of Two and Lizzie on the couch in the Curtis house. Steve was sprawled out on the floor watching TV. Soda was sitting down on the steps, waiting patiently for Darry to come down and talk to him. Dallas left right after Scar took off and Pony and Johnny went to go find her.
Avery was nervous that the trio had yet to return home. It had to have been over an hour since they all left. Everyone was expecting them to come home quickly, thinking that Pony would convince his sister to come home.
The sound of footsteps made everyone's head snap up. Soda jumped off the stairs and waited for Darry, who was stomping down the stairs like a mad man.
"I don't want to talk right now," Darry said as he passed by Soda and walked through the living room. He made his way toward the kitchen, Soda following close behind. "did you not hear me Soda!"
Everyone but Soda jumped at Darry's yelling. Soda was standing his ground, trying his hardest to come across as tough to his older brother. He wasn't scared of Darry but he was scared that he wouldn't take him seriously.
"What the hell were you arguing with Dallas about?" Soda asked in calm voice despite the tension in the room. Darry turned to him, his nostrils flared and his face red with anger.
"That is none of your concern!" He yelled again as he slammed his fist against the wall.
"Yes it is!" Soda yelled back. "my twin sister is out there, our baby brother, our friend! It's getting dark out, Darry! Scarlett isn't on good terms with four different socs. Four! She's not okay right now and instead of helping her out, you do something that drives her away! Again!"
"Did you not know that your twin sister was screwing around with Dallas Winston?" Darry asked, his tone still angry but his voice level coming down a lot. Soda's face dropped at the news, feeling somewhat betrayed that his twin didn't tell him.
"What?" Avery asked as she stood up from her place on the couch. She was fuming at this point. She and Lizzie were the only people in the room that knew she wasn't screwing around. Avery and Lizzie were watching the two of them fall for each other!
"Avery, it's best if you stay out of this," Darry warned as he pointed a finger toward her. She shook her head with an annoyed laugh.
"You don't get it, do you?" Avery asked as she took a step closer to them. "Scarlett hasn't been screwing around with Dal, she's been falling in love with him and he's been falling for her. She's too scared to tell you because she knows that you will flip out on her like you did!"
"My baby sister doesn't love Dallas," Darry scoffed as he tried to push past everyone and go back up to his room. Avery stood in front of him.
"No, you just don't want her to," She said, causing Darry's face to grow pale. "Dally has been her support since Mikey died. Scar's always felt something for him but when he started showing her emotions and helped her through the death of her best friend, she fell in love."
"Dallas Winston is a good person, he just needed an even better person to bring it out of him," Lizzie said from the couch, causing everyone to look over at her with shock. Lizzie, the girl who never spoke up in arguments because she was always too afraid, was speaking up to Darry.
"They're out there right now because you didn't even give her the chance," Soda spoke up. "she's seventeen, she should be allowed to chose who she wants to like."
"And you're really okay with your twin sister dating someone like Dal?" Darry asked Soda, a look of bewilderment on his face. Soda nodded his head slowly.
"Dal has a reputation, we all know that," Soda said as he gestured to everyone in the room. "but Scar and Dal have something. He's changing for her! When was the last time Dal got arrested? Or the last time he told us about a girl he was screwing with?"
Darry remained silent as he listened to his younger brother, not wanting to admit that he had been wrong all this time. When Darry didn't answer, Soda kept going.
"Ever since Mikey died, Dal has been watching out for her," Soda explains. "of course we all have been but those two have a special bond, something none of us will ever have with her. He's filling the space Mikey left her with when he died and I think that's something we should celebrate rather than punish them for."
Even though Soda wasn't the brightest out of the gang, he knew a thing or two about love. He also knew his twin sister better than anyone else and was tired of people choosing her life for her. He knew he had to be the one to get her out of this mess with their brother and Dal, and that's what he did.
"We're going out there to find them," Two said as he stood up from the couch. "we're going to bring the three of them back, tonight."
"And when we do come back with them," Avery said. "you give her the chance to explain herself."
Darry said nothing, instead, he walked right out the door to begin the search for the three missing kids. Avery sighed as she shook her head at him, annoyed. Soda wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"Don't worry, we're going to make him come around," Soda said with a smile, making Avery smile back. She took a deep breath and nodded before beginning to walk toward the door. She turned to everyone.
"Soda and I will check the park, the lot, and the Dingo," Avery explained. "Steve, Liz, and Two you guys will check Mikey's house, the drive-in, and Bucks. She might have gone to see Dal."
Everyone nodded in agreement as they all rushed out the door. Soda and Avery took a left while the others took a right. Their first stop was the lot, which was the closest to the Curtis house. They rushed into the lot to find it completely empty. With an annoyed sigh, they took off toward the park.
Soda and Avery jogged across the street and into the park. There was no one there but a stain on the ground caught Avery's attention. She rushed over with Soda at her side. She bent down and saw the dark red stain that was right near the fountain.
Memories from when her brother stabbed Bob flooded her mind. It had happened right here and now another person's blood stained the cement near the fountain. Avery and Soda had a feeling it was hers but neither of them wanted to believe it.
They turned toward each other when they heard the sound of an engine. They turned quickly toward the street they had just come from and saw Darry's truck. The two of them ran quickly toward it. Darry was driving with Matt in the front seat. Avery furrowed her eyebrows before Darry spoke up.
"Get in," He said as he gestured toward the car. "Scar got stabbed, we gotta go."
