Chapter 7: Sayings & Promises

The next day, I wake up groggily as I realise my phone is ringing. I reach up and grab it off my dresser and answer it.

"H-hello?" I ask

"Catnip. It's, it's Gale. Can I uh, talk to you about what happened last night?"

"Um, sure. Where do you wanna talk?" I asked cautiously.

"I'll be around in 10 yeah?"

"Yeah, see you then."

I hung up the phone and decided to clean myself up. I quickly showered and got dressed when I heard a knock on my door. I put my bottle of perfume down and I opened the door.

"Hey," I said.

"Hey, I uhm, can I come in?"

"Yeah sure," I held the door open as he walked in and sat on my bed.

We sat in silence for a few minutes before he finally spoke up.

"Did you really mean what you said last night? Is that how you really feel?" He looked up at me and for the first time I realised he had tears in his eyes.

I thought back to last night and tried to rangle my feelings before finally answering his question.

"Yes, I did mean what I said to you last night. I meant every word of it." I smiled at him and before I could go over to him, he stood up and knelt before me. He started to put his hands on my stomach when he stopped and looked at up at me.

"Is it alright if I do this?"

My face automatically went bright red but I realised that my head was slowly nodding. I wanted him to touch it; and before long, Gale's hands were on my tummy. He starts rubbing and whispering as he laughs at himself and what he's saying. I grab his hand so I know that he's paying attention to me.

"Gale, if we're gonna make this work, then I need you to promise me that you won't be with another girl as long as we're together."

He looks up and meets my eyes and says, "I promise you Katniss, that you will be the one. The only one from now on."

"I love you Gale, I always have."

And I kissed Gale Hawthorne like I haven't kissed him before.
