Niall’s Pov

I held Ella close, in my arms, letting her sob in my chest. I silently recalled the events that preceded this.

When we returned after hunting, Louis was not in the house. Liam sensed something was wrong, and we immediately remembered the girl, Ella. Harry quickly found her tracks. Her blood-covered clothes lay in a heap on the ground. I knew Louis planned on burning them. He was smart enough to think of everything.

However, we had to get there fast because Liam sensed the trouble Louis would have. We had to get to Ella before he hurt her. Yes, she was a human and all but we all knew that there was something special about her, something that only Louis could notice. For us, was she just a human, like all the rest. And what proved that she was something special for Louis?

He hadn’t eaten in four days, and that’s almost the longest a vampire can go without blood. If we don't feed for even slightly over four days we lose control and have the instinct to kill everything and everyone we pass. Besides, once Louis was hungry and found his prey, he never hesitated to kill.

But this time he did. He even kept her alive. I snapped out of my thoughts when the smell of blood penetrated my nose.

Blood!

No, Niall. Ignore it. It's just a little...blood.

I looked at the ground in front of me. I noticed there was a puddle of blood. Ella’s blood. I felt my fangs growing in my mouth and my blue eyes went red.

NO, NO, NO!

Concentrate Niall! You’ve just fed. Concentrate Niall! I kept telling myself over and over again. After a couple of minutes my fangs disappeared and my eyes regained their blue color. I sighed in relief. I didn’t want to hurt Ella, but we were vampires, we were not made to care or love. We were made to kill and feed. This kind of thing is very hard for us.

I’ve never liked killing a human, or even a animal. But once the hunger comes over you or you smell blood, you’ll change your mind over that statement. You are then almost desperate to have and taste it. You become a different person.

I looked down at Ella, her eyes were closed, dried tears stained her face. She was breathing softly. She was asleep. I gently picked her up and I sped with her in my arms towards her bed. I lay her down and covered her body with the sheets.

I tucked her in and whispered a goodnight. I loved being a human, but that was a long time ago. I sped back to the bathroom and cleaned up the puddle of blood. I knew that if it stayed there and any of us would maybe come back, we could lose control.

After I cleaned it up I went downstairs. I looked around her house. It was very small, and you could smell a combination of alcohol and drugs in the living room. I noticed the smell of another human who must be living there. It was a male. Being in this house certainly didn’t give me  a good feeling.

I was about to go to the next room when the front door flung open, a tall man walked in. He was clearly high and drunk. I could smell that. I could also smell the scent of different females on him. I didn’t want to know what he had been doing.

I sped upstairs before I could get noticed. I could still see him and every movement he made. He started making his way up the stairs.

“Ella!” he screamed, smirking evilly. He laughed.

“I’ve got a surprise for you sweetie,” he sang, laughing, while pulling out a kitchen knife from his pocket. I gasped and sped to her room in less than a second. That guy was going to hurt her! I looked at Ella and saw a figure standing next to her. It was Liam.
