The Game of Chess is Now Over

After Light closed his eyes I knew I had to get up and leave. It was time for me to go back to my world or to find out what happens next. I stood from my spot on the stairs and looked at Light Yagami one last time.

   " Goodbye Light. Maybe when this story is over if it repeats I'll try and save you. I'll take the Death Note instead so you won't die like this. "

I started walking down the stairs and out of the building. Tears were still streaming down my face as I walked. The hole in my shoulder still burned from the bullet but the pain of the bullet combined with the pain in my heart. I found Mogi and I called for him. He ran to my side and walked with me to find the others. When we made it I saw Lawliet looking around frantically. Mello, Matt, and Near were trying to calm their mentor down but it was ineffective. Matsuda spotted me and ran to me. He tightly embraced me and we cried together. The others saw us and ran over. I collapsed on the ground with Matsuda and me in each other's arms. We pulled away and I looked at all the people that stood in front of me. 

   " This is how the story ended. Light Yagami would die here. L you Matt and Mello were supposed to die a long time ago but I prevented it. I could not prevent Light's death. He was the main character of this story so he has to follow the path he originally took without any faults and he did just that. He ended the story like how it should have ended. "

   " What will happen to you now? " Matsuda said still crying.

   " We don't know yet. I have a hole in my shoulder from a bullet though. Mikami found out my real name before the meeting started so I was fearful he would kill me but now I worry about the bullet hole I have. "

The sky was lit up in pinks and oranges. The sun was getting ready to set, meaning that the day was almost over. I didn't feel any different. All I could feel was the ache in my shoulder from the bullet hole. Lawliet left the group and walked over to me. He sat on the ground and hugged me to him.

   " Nothing's happened yet. This means you are staying here. "

   " The day isn't over yet Ryuzaki. "

Everyone crowded around me and Lawliet continued to hug me close to him. I rested in his arms but I could only relax for a minute when a white light appeared. I was confused. When I opened my eyes I saw white bands forming around me. They were as thick and wide as a tie on a robe. They looked to be silky soft to the touch. I pulled away from Lawliet and stood up. The bands were floating around me and a white light was coming from behind me. I felt my feet leave the ground and I got scared. The bands were coming from the white light and they were surrounding me. When I touched one of them they were as soft as clouds.

   " I guess it's my time to go. "

   " Y/n, we said you would stay. "

   " I know, but it looks like I don't have a choice. The bands are pulling me into the white light. "

I looked at everyone and felt more tears start to stream down my face.

   " I'll miss you guys. I will always remember everything that happened these past five years. I promise. "

They all just continued to look at me. Some with smiles and some with tears. Lawliet walked up to me and reached his hands up to grab mine. He pulled me towards him but the bands of white only stayed around me. They didn't go around him. 

   " It seems I can't go with you. "

   " It seems that way. Lawliet tell Watari I said goodbye. " I whispered.

   " I will. "

   " Always remember to get some sleep every so often. "

   " Alright. "

   " Don't eat only sweets. "

   " Can't do that one. "

   " Remember that I love you. "

   " Forever and always even if the story repeats. Remember I love you to Y/n. No matter if I remember or not. If the story repeats it gives me another chance to fall in love with you all over again. And I know that I will. 100%."

Tears were streaming down my face but Lawliet didn't have any. I knew it was because he wasn't an emotional person. That was one reason why he told me he loved me. Because I taught him emotions. He showed me a small smile though and that was good enough for me. The bands that floated around me started touching my body and gently pulling me into the light.

   " Don't go. "

   " I have to. I can't go with you. "

Lawliet held my face in his hand and he kissed me. Our lips connected and the sparks were still there from when we first kissed. He rubbed the tears off of my face as we kissed and I felt the love he felt for me in the kiss. He pulled away and held my hands. The bands of white started pulling me into the bright light. I kept my hands connected with Lawliet's until I was too high up to touch them. He slowly put his hands back in his pockets and everyone stood around him. They all had smiles on their faces and tears streaming down their cheeks. I smiled back at them and the light covered my vision. My last glimpse was of all of them standing together like best friends and smiling at me. 

   ' I will never forget that picture. '

I floated in a white abyss with the bands still pulling me. Where? I didn't know. What I did know was that I heard voices. As the bands were pulling me I was getting closer and closer to voices. Then I saw holes cut into the abyss. My memories were inside the cuts and I watched them as I floated by. I saw myself moving in the memories, like a movie. When I first met the Task Force and guessed their names. When Lawliet and I shared cake in the kitchen. I got to meet Misa and she was excited for us to be friends. The day Lawliet was telling me about the note. Times when I was searching for the letter. Lawliet tickling and comforting me when I was stressed. Then when the Yotsuba group was discovered. Fighting against them and getting shot. My first kiss with Lawliet. Saving Lawliet's life from Rem. Finding Lawliet later at a hotel eating cake. 

   ' Those were the times. '

Then my memories of Near, Matt, and Mello started appearing, I watched as I was getting kidnapped and going to L.A. While meeting Matt and Mello in the process. Spending some good laughing times with them before the mafia base was blown up. Meeting Near and the rest of the SPK force. Building domino towers with Near and playing a game of cards. Escaping the SPK building and returning to Lawliet in Japan. Saving Matt from his execution and he had the genius idea to pretend we were lovers to hide from the cops. Saving Mello from his death at the broken-down church. 

   ' I saved both of their lives on the same day. I'm a miracle worker. '

Then memories of the meeting came and I watched for a second time how the meeting was taken place. When it was over I saw myself sitting beside Light's body. Tears once more streamed down my face as I watched Light die a second time. I could see myself holding his hand and apologizing to him. Then I saw myself leave the building and go towards the rest of the group. It reminded me of a movie scene. When I was laid in Lawliet's lap and he held me, then the bands of light came. I could only look at the memory of myself being pulled into the light and saying my final goodbye's to everyone. I saw myself get fully enveloped into the light and the slit in the universe closed. There was one more hole in the white void and when I looked into it I saw that it was the moment after I left and went into the white void. Everyone's smiles dropped and tears were falling like waterfalls. The slit then moved towards Lawliet and his raven hair was covering his eyes. I looked at him and noticed tear streaks. He had one tear streak from both of his eyes and they were fresh tears. The slits closed and then the light got brighter and brighter.

   ' The game of chess is now over. '
