chapter twenty-one: promises

I woke up in the hospital. I looked around and no one was there, no one at all.

It was silent, and I could hear a slight ringing in my ear. I tried my best to get up, but I was weak. I gave it a couple more tries, and finally I got up. I grabbed my IV stand, and walked to the hospital room door.

As I was walking over to the door, stuffed animals, chocolates, and bouquets of wonderful flowers placed perfectly on the night stand.
Most of the flowers were dead, what day is it? I grabbed the cold handle and turned it slowly, what time is it?

I slowly creaked open the door and looked outside... no one but a nurse in the hallway. I exited my room and started to walk down the hallway, my hair was in two braids, and my attire was a hospital gown and fluffy socks.

After walking for a little while, I turned right into the front lounge of the hospital.

I know this place, I've been here before.

There was no one in the lounge except a secretary. Where are all the people?

"Are you okay, sweetie?" The lady at the desk asked me.

"What's the date?"

"It is November 11th, angel." She responded with a smile. "If I'm correct that's been about two weeks since your admittance?"

"Thank you, where's Noah?" I mumbled enough for her to hear.

"Is that the boy who comes in everyday with a new bouquet of flowers for you?"

I nodded.

"He should be back soon, he suggest to his friends everyday that you get some new treat for when you wake up, and I don't think he expected it to be today. So let me give him a call, you just go ahead back to your room, okay sweetie?"

I nodded again, "Thank you miss..."

"Oh please dear, call me Miss Jessica."

"Thank you, Miss Jessica" I said softly and started to walk back into my room.

When I got back into my room I walked into the bathroom, and stared at myself in the mirror for a bit.

I lost weight, a lot of it. I wonder how? I had so many questions I wished could be answered. A few years started to fall down my slim cheeks, I looked at myself disgusted.

"I'm hideous," I said to myself and sat down on the floor, bawling.

I sat there for twenty minutes, wondering what I was going to do when Noah got here. Nothing probably.

Suddenly, the door swung open, and Noah looked down at me.

"Y/n!" He yelled and dropped down on the floor next to me. "What happened? Are you okay?"

Finn shortly came in after him and dropped to the floor too, putting his hand on my knee, comforting me.

"Look at me! I'm hideous!" I bawled into my knees.

Noah and Finn looked at each other with relief, then turned back to me.

"Y/n, you're not hideous, you're beautiful." Finn said and smiled.

"Yeah babe, you're absolutely gorgeous. I'm so lucky I have you." Noah said and kissed me on the forehead.

I looked at Noah and Finn, "Really?" I asked with a glimmer in my eye.

They both nodded and smiled.

A small smile struck my face.

"Are you ready to get up now?" Noah asked.

"Yeah," I mumbled, and Noah and Finn helped me to the bed.

Noah kissed me on the cheek and pulled up a chair next to my bed, Finn sat on the end of it.

"How are you feeling?" Finn asked.

Deja vu.

"I'm fine, i'm just a little out of it."

"I bet" Finn said and nodded.

I looked over at Noah, and he had a tear running down his cheek.

I reached my hand over and wiped it off.

"Don't cry babe, I'll be okay." I gave him a slight smile.

He reached over and hugged me, careful not to put any of his weight on me. I felt his tears hit my chest and neck.

"I just don't want to have to worry about you anymore." Noah said into my neck.

"I know babe, I'm sorry, i'll be strong I promise."

"I know you will, y/n."

Finn looked at us, with a sad expression. I could tel he was worried too.

"Come here Finn," I say and Noah agrees.

Finn came over and lied next to me, with his head on my stomach, careful with his weight too.

We stayed in that position for at least thirty minutes.

We finally broke the hug.

"Where's Ari?" I asked.

"I told her she could go home and sleep, and that I would check in on you. I told her to text me when she gets up so I could pick her up." Finn explained and I nodded.

Just then Miss Jessica came in.

"Hi, Miss Jessica." I said a smiled slightly.

"Hi, sunshine." She said and walked over to my IV stand to put in new medicine.

"How are you feeling?" She asked me.

"Still in a bit of pain, but I can manage."

"That's good, dear." She said and I smiled.

"I bet you're feeling a lot better with your boyfriends here." She joked and I chuckled.

"Definitely." I smiled at her.

She placed some water and some medicine on the table for me.

"Take this, I'll leave you alone now." She said as she walked out of the room.

I took the pill and water and swallowed it. Then I grabbed Noah's hand and held it.

"Did they tell how long I was supposed to be in here?" I questioned Noah and Finn, and they both looked down at the floor.

"Well?" I asked.

Still no answer.

"Well, um they said." Finns started, but stopped.

"They said not for a while, they don't know what, but there's supposedly something really wrong with your heart. We didn't tell you because we didn't want you to wake up to that."

I did all I could, I started to cry.

"Hey babe, don't cry, you're going to be okay. I promise." Noah said

"You promise?" I asked

I promise.
