Chapter One - Definition

Normal. What is it?

Normal
ˈnɔːm(ə)l/
adjective

1. Conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.

That's the dictionary definition anyway. The world has taken on the version of normal as what is usually seen, typical, expected. But what's that?

Size 8, wait, scratch that, size 6, which is so unrealistic sizing, as 70 percent of American women are a size 14. What else, big butt, small waist, massive boobs because guys tend to like boobs. Even though boys do have them, just without all the fat... do boys even realise the health issues associated with big boobs? Chronic back pain, rashes, shoulder grooves. All of which are not sexy! Sorry, I'm getting off topic, back to what is normal in the 2020's. What's in style at the moment? Some say grunge is all the rage, others are now bringing back the 90s with all their double denim. Then you have your rich upper class that wear what is 'proper', mostest dresses and heels. When I think rich class clothes I think of the pastel colours. But wait, what does clothes have to do with being normal? Their main purpose is to cover up our bodies, or keep us warm, yet everyone seems to judge you based on what you wear and how you look.

Then what is abnormal?

Abnormal
əbˈnɔːm(ə)l/
adjective

1. Deviating from what is normal or usual, typically in a way that is undesirable or worrying.

But who's to say that you are abnormal if no one can really define normal?

So here I am trying to decide wether or not I'm normal or abnormal. I'm more leaning towards abnormal since no one can do what I can, well as far as I know anyway.

So there you have it. I guess abnormal finally has a proper definition.

Abnormal
əbˈnɔːm(ə)l/
adjective

1. Anastasia Montgomery

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"Anastasia!" My mother called out to me, sounding distressed for some unknown reason, just like she usually does. That's the thing about my mother, she's always worrying about everything, wether it be trivial or not, so I don't panic when I hear her distressed calls anymore, it's usually not life or death.

"Here," I chimed cheerfully as I skipped into the kitchen, trying to lighten her mood, although I know my feeble attempts won't work, these days I just seem to destress her even more.

My mum sighed dramatically as I sat down at our breakfast bar which she was standing on the other side of, watching me impatiently. "You're going to be late. And on your first day too!" She cried out like the end of the world was here and she hadn't packed her bags. Well, knowing my mum, she's already packed, and it's me who is again unprepared.

"You're over reacting mum," I rolled my eyes at her as I grabbed a banana out of the fruit bowl, peeled it then took a large bite out of the top, only for her to groan loudly, pulling my attention from my food back up to her face. I raised my brows at her

"You've got to clean your teeth Ann," she sighed again, rubbing her face with her hands.

I cringed internally at my nickname, I hated it. No disrespect to other people with that name, but, to me it sounded like more of an older lady's name. Either that or it reminded me of the holocaust, you know, because of Anne Frank. Which again, no disrespect intended, but I don't what to think of murdered people every time someone calls my name. I've tried to tell mum that I don't like it, but Ann was her mother's name, and mums middle name, so she thought the tradition should be passed down. Which would of been fine if Ann was my middle name, and not my nickname, but anyway.
