Chapter 23

23 | Let your guard down

"Family of Toni Braxton Scott." The doctor walked up to everyone that sat in the waiting room.

They all stood up, "she's stable." He announced causing everyone to let out a breathe of relief.

"Can I go see her-"

"But unfortunately the baby did not make it." He added making them frown.

"Baby?" Helen repeated raising her eyebrows as the doctor nodded.

"She was pregnant?" Sydney gasped causing the doctor to straighten his face.

"None of you knew?" The doctor asked in confusion.

"No." Kenny spat just than Michigan barged in.

"Where is she-"

Kenny immediately grabbed Michigan and punched him, he sent blows left and right causing everyone to intervene and pull them apart except Helen.

"I wish he'd beat his ass." Helen mumbled folding her arms over her chest.

"You killed our child!" Kenny shouted pointing directly in Michigan's face.

"Whoa I didn't do anything-"

"Yes you did!" Kenny yelled angrily before he punched the wall behind him. "If you hadn't showed up- fuck you man!" Kenny yelled swinging at him again but Greg pushed him back.

"How do you even know that the baby was yours?" Greg questioned.

"Because he can't give her any kids!" Kenny shouted In frustration, "she wanted to tell me something the other day but I wouldn't let her." Kenny groaned growing more frustrated, he kicked the side table away from him in annoyance.

"Toni was a damn whore that baby probably wasn't even yours-"

"You know what!" Both Sydney and Kenny spat in unison walking up to Michigan.

"What?" Michigan spat looking between the two.

"Say one more damn thing about Toni and I will break your face. I swear to God!" Kenny balled his hands into fists.

"Kenny go get some air." Greg said pushing him towards the door.

Kenny sighed before he nodded his head and stormed out.

"You're a bastard you know that." Sydney said to Michigan. "Why don't you just leave." Sydney groaned, "go!" She yelled pointing towards the door.

"You can-"

"Michigan leave." Greg sternly said pulling Sydney towards him.

Michigan clenched his jaw before he left.

"Fucking asshole." Helen mumbled watching Michigan intently as she shook her head.

"Hey you're up." Sydney smiled walking into Toni's hospital room.

Toni sighed looking around, she sat up slowly grimacing. Her right arm was extremely sensitive.

"The doctor says that you sprained your arm." Sydney said sitting down next to her.

Toni nodded before she frowned and looked around again.

"What's wrong?" Sydney frowned.

"My baby..." Toni trailed off, "is it okay?" Toni asked looking at Sydney who swallowed the lump in her throat and slowly shook her head.

Toni let out a shaky breathe before her soft cries filled the room.

"I'm so sorry." Sydney sighed getting up, she wrapped her arms around Toni and pulled her into her embrace.

"I know I said that it was bad timing but I really wanted to be a mommy." Toni cried.

"You'll have plenty more chances to have another baby."

"It won't be the same." Toni shook her head pulling away just as the door opened and in walked Kenny with a bouquet of roses.

"Hey, these are for you." He said holding up the roses before he frowned noticing her teary eyes, "can I hug you?" He asked knowing exactly why she was crying.

She shook her head.

"No Kenny! Stay far away from me!" She snapped.

He sighed.

"This could've been prevented. If you and Michigan hadn't fought- my baby would've still been here!" Toni yelled as Sydney grabbed her bag and looked between the two.

"So now it's my fault?" Kenny asked pulling his face in confusion.

"Yes! None of this was supposed to happen!" She shouted.

"Toni calm down." Sydney said rubbing her shoulder.

"I can't- I lost my child-"

"It was my baby too." Kenny protested.

"And he or she would've been here. I didn't even get a chance to know the gender... you ruined everything. You and Michigan- AH I can't stand you! Get out!" She shouted pointing towards the door.

"Toni-"

"Out!"

"Let me be there for you!" He yelled back. "Jesus Toni!" He snapped shaking his head, "stop pushing me away. I love you!" He groaned.

Sydney's eyes widened.

"I'll give you two some time." Sydney lowly said stepping out.

"You're just saying that-"

"No I'm not." He shook his head walking up to her, "I can't... I don't want to go through this again-"

"Through what? The same bullshit Michigan put you through? I wouldn't do that to you, I wanna care for you and maybe even get married. That's what I want with you Toni, I wanna build with you. Just stop pushing me away, I know you're scared of the outcome but just trust me and know that my feelings for you are sincere." He said taking her hand into his.

"You don't have to tell me anything right now, just let me be there for you... please?" He begged.

Toni looked down and let out a trembly breathe...

"Can I hug you now?" Kenny asked.

She bit her lip and nodded her head, he smiled lightly wrapping his arms around her.
