Chapter 18: I Found

Axel

~~~
And I'll use you as a focal point
That if you talk enough sense then you'll lose your mind
I'll use you as a warning sign
So I don't lose sight of what I want
No, no, no, no!
I held on to Aileen for dear life.
"Azrael!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. My vocal cords felt like they were about to burst.
"Axel, you need to take her away from here. I can't hold it back much longer."
I looked over at Timore holding the crown. It was sucking everything into it like an endless black hole
"Her soul is detaching from her body. If she is close to the crown, she will just be dragged back, and there will be no escaping this time!"
With perfect timing, a blinding light makes everything around us freeze. Or at least it appears to freeze, but I could see the void of the crown still pulling everything nears it's vicinity slowly.
I held on to Aileen tighter, but there was so much blood. I could feel her slipping away and, there was nothing I could do but hold her.
Please... don't go. I'm sorry.
That's when I felt it. A warmth on my shoulder, so comforting it gave me hope. I turned execting my mother but all I saw was light in a human form.
"Azrael?" I whispered, astonished.
"Lucifer." I heard the Timore say behind me.
The splendor just leaned forward, pressing its face to Aileen's forehead, then pulled back slowly. I looked down at Aileen and I notice a small intake of breath that calmed my beating heart. The light then extended its arm in front of me, and I turned to see what it was signaling at.
There in the distance, I saw another blinding light walking towards us, and I just knew right there, that was my mother.
I looked back down to Aileen, and I knew what I had to do. I stood up, cradling her in my arms. I looked over at Timore only to see her guarding the crown.
"Timore, let's go," I told her with urgency.
"I can't." and I saw something I've never seen on her before. A genuine smile.
"Take care of her."
"What will happen to you?" I asked, concerned. Not sure if I should leave Aileen's best friend behind.
"I will take over for Aileen. Now go before the energy that Lucifer gave her vanishes."
"Thank you," I tell her sincerely, bowing my head in respect.
I see something in her eyes as she looks down at Aileen one last time.
"Stay safe." She says to her as she brings the crown over her head.
I turn and break into a jog, being as careful as I can with Aileen. My lungs start to burn, as I deeply inhale the frosty atmosphere of hell. I see the things around us slowly start to wind up as I pushed myself even harder to reach the gates we came from.
