Carmen turned from the tins of tomatoes she was stacking when she heard someone enter the shop.

'Good afternoon' said this rather tall, handsome man with a slight accent, sounded like German. 'Do you sell salami?' he asked

'Oh yes' Carmen answered with a big smile, 'I have the finest and the widest selection in town,'

He smiled back and walked up to the counter explaining,'I have been invited to a friends house for lunch and she has just asked me to bring along some cuts of cold meats, salami and chorizo will do I think'

Carmen walked over to the counter, 'Here' she said pointing, 'this is a fine salami and for chorizo do you want a strong, peppery flavour or a milder variety?'

'A good strong flavour will be perfect' he answered.

As Carmen started cutting the sausages she asked a little shyly, 'I can't quite make out the accent, are you German or Danish?'

'I'm German but have lived here in Fuengirola for over 8 years now, although I don't usually come to this side of town, I live over by the castle' he explained.

He stayed chatting for about half an hour then  suddenly looked at his watch,'Oh my I'm going to be late, listen, I wondered....' he paused and looked Carmen directly in the eyes, 'I wondered if you were free that is, would you like to come out perhaps for a drink or something tomorrow evening?'

Carmen remembered feeling a small glow build up inside her,'she remembered saying lightly, 'That would be nice, I close up around 9 pm, if you meet me here we can go down to one of the places along the sea front.'

And that had been that. It was almost love at first sight. They had starting seeing each other almost daily, sometimes he would just come to the shop with a couple of coffees he had bought at the bar down the road, or they would go for lunch or dinner or drinks.  Within 6 months he had moved in with her. They were in love and things were great.
