Chapter 28 | Zain

Zain

"I am a nice person. But don't push the fucking button."

ZAIN PICKED UP his phone as soon as he saw the caller id. It was morning here, the time difference was surely affecting their communication sometimes but he expected Kiara to be home by tomorrow. He just waited for the time she would be in his arms - he simply loved to cuddle with her.

"Hey, angel." Zain answers.

"Hey. How are you?" she asks.

"I will be better if you are there."

"Aww... someone misses me too much. I wonder why I couldn't stop the hiccups all this day."

"Can't help but miss your beautiful smile, angel."

"I am flattered, Mr Dhawan. Now, I have a flight at ten today. I will be there tomorrow night."

"Why so late? I thought your flight was around 6?"

There is a pause in between and Zain had a feeling that the reason was something he wouldn't like. And the fact that Damien was in India with her, didn't seem to calm him down. He trusted her but it was Damien he didn't trust even a bit. He was a devil in disguise.

"Umm... I have dinner with Damien."

"You what?!"

Now, Zain was sure that he should have been in India with his girlfriend. He had to protect her from the evil clutches of that demon. But something irked in his mind. He knew Kiara well and her accepting Damien's offer confused and worried him at the same time. Was she slipping away from him?

"He knows, Zain. He knows about my parents and I think....he is onto something. I am not liking the vibes of it, at all. I don't know what to do."

The insecurity in her voice made Zain worry more - it was unlike of Kiara to be so vulnerable about matters like these. In fact, he had half expected her to find a way to get rid of Damien by now. And whatever was happening was just the opposite.

"Is there something you are not telling me?" he asks.

He hears her sigh and his suspicions were confirmed. There was something she wasn't telling him.

"Two years ago, I kind of seduced Damien to get close to Rajesh Gupta. He... his father Anurag Gupta was responsible for my father's death. I... I know that if he finds this out he is going to come after me and threaten your life. And I am scared. I don't want you to...just stop living your life. I want you to be a famous singer and go to parties rather than being scared for your life all the time."

As she finished speaking, Zain's worry heightened. She was scared for him. That Damien might do something to him. He wanted to tell her that Damien can't hurt him but then who was he kidding? Both of them knew that Damien was dangerous and even though Kiara had her own influence but she was still new in the game. Her father might have left a mark but she was still learning.

Damien was a mastermind, as Kiara had put him to be. And if she was scared that something might happen then Zain needs to do everything to ensure that Damien doesn't away with this.

This was a war he refused to let him win.

"I...I don't know what to say, Kiara. I trust you and your abilities but I hate this...What does he want from us? Haven't he got enough?" he asks, irritation laced in his voice.

"I don't know, Zain. I am not going to back down, though. I am not someone he could just order around and even though I am not as powerful as him, I am not going down without a fight. I am not letting him walk over me, ever." Kiara replies.

Zain felt a faint smile appearing on his face - this was the girl he knew. The one who doesn't get scared easily and has a tough bone in her. She is the girl he fell in love with and will soon enough, marry.

But he isn't going to let her handle everything on her own - he had a plan and he is going to get strong for her. Both physically and emotionally.

He will be the support she leans on.

"I know, babe. I know you could beat his ass real good," he replies.

"I need to go now, love. Will see you soon enough. I will call you when I board the plane. Bye."

"Bye, angel. Take care," he replies and disconnects the line.

Zain's mind processes whatever is going on.

He has to be tougher. He isn't going to back down on his music career since Kiara had huge expectations from him. Moreover, music is his escape and he knows he is good. The producers and editors have finalised everything and just Kiara's approval is needed to push everything forward.

But with everything going on, music is the least of his worries. He has to protect Kiara. She might be too proud to admit it, but she needs security too. She can't just carry the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Zain might have had a tough childhood but he isn't going to let it govern his future. He is going to have a beautiful wife soon and in the future, kids with her too.

And he has to protect his family.

He had a lot to plan - getting married to Kiara, his album release, and of course, college. He thinks he might put college on a break but then, he didn't want to just be a CEO without a degree. He needed to learn more skills and college was going to help him in that.

He wanted to help Kiara in every way possible.

And not to forget - his gran proposal to Kiara when she comes back. She deserved the entire world on her feet and Zain hoped that his attempts were a success. He had a romantic bone in his body, somewhat.

He dialled a number he never expected to, knowing that he is the only person who could help him right now.

The person picks up the phone in two rings. Even though he was with Kiara right now, he had some time.

"Aman, meet me when you come back. I need your help."
