Stories from friends and/or family members are great inspirations for fictional books. So, the next time your grandparents or your parents tell you a story about their childhood, listen and write it down. Imagine what it was like to grow up in a different time or place, how hard it was for them to adapt to the changing times, write about the distinct possibilities. Just because you don't know everything about it doesn't mean you can't do your research.
1. When a friend says, "OMG, you won't believe what happened to me last yesterday.." pay attention. It could be the beginning, middle or end to a fantastic story.
2. Stories can come from the most unlikely place. Maybe a radio DJ is talking about his childhood or the process he had to go through to become a DJ. These stories can be very fascinating.
WARNING: Don't get the reputation of a writer who steals people's personal stories and experiences and write them down as a fictional book. it makes people hesitant to talk to you. Make sure to get their permission before you go through, know the information they're comfortable with going out.
