I got to know that Hannan was also getting married alongside her brother which also means me. If things hadn't gone haywire, we would've been happy about this. I promise to set everything right even before the engagement. The guilt of Breaking the friendship of those who had known each other for a while now is killing me.As I walk down the corridor of my house on top of the street, I began to think about how my life has changed in just a short span of time. Being an introvert, there was nothing that interests me except books and being a loner.
Being in my own world was all I called fun and I realise that there are more to what I think was life. Things like making friends, relationships, family issues etc. All of it then comes with their ups and downs.
This was why I preferred being a loner.
"Earth to Areezah," The voice I could recognize even if I was woken up from sleep said. I didn't look at him though. I didn't know that I had passed Jameel's car until he called.
"Do you stupidly daydream all day?" of course, this was how he was thought to greet. He wasn't even a gentle man.
"You know what, I didn't mind when you were rude but not being a gentleman?" I told him. I could never keep quiet when I'm with Jameel , it just seems impossible really.
My voice is back!
"You should thank me for being a gentleman actually." he said, smirking along. He then crossed his arms and leaned on his car like that kind-of boss.
"You could never be a gentleman Jameel, even if the moon has to come down." I say, I could never see him as someone who's sweet and soft. It isn't even going well.
"Have you forgotten that I was the one that picked you when you slept inside the rain?" he asked almost instantly.
Ya salaam what was wrong with people saying that I slept inside the rain?
"Do you even hear what you're saying? How would I sleep inside the rain?" I asked looking at everywhere but him.
"Do I know? You must have thought that the street was a good place to sleep on. Who knows maybe you wanted to try some experiment eventually you fell asleep and then the cold caught up with you and you fainted afterwards and... "
I cut him off.
"Okay enough, you've given me an earful already."
"Oh so now it's not legal for you to look at me?" he suddenly changed the topic. To be honest, I have no clue of what Jameel look like. I didn't want to know now even, and I wasnt interested either.
"What's so good about your face huh?" I retorted. He laughed, like literally laughed as if I had just said the biggest joke.
"One day, you'd wish you had never said that dear." He whispered although I heard him clearly, I shivered at the thought of him giving me an endearment.
"I wouldn't I promise you." Making this promise wasn't a joke, I've read about guys way more better than what I would expect from him. I don't even think someone would look like all those novels I read.
"Areezah what are you getting yourself into?" he asked tauntingly. The breeze blew inside of me and I shivered again. I didn't reply because I could not think of a befitting reply at that moment.
"You look very beautiful, huh I mean nice." he stuttered, why he did? I didn't know. But he could notice my uneasiness and added. "Don't take it as a compliment, I'm just stating what I'm seeing. Even if it's a compliment I have the right to."
"Why do you have the right to?" I have no Idea why I said that but it was already said.
"Because you're my wife." he stated in an obvious manner.
"I'm not your wife. We aren't even engaged yet," I scoffed stating the obvious.
"What ever you say Areezah,"
"Can we get going already? I don't want to be late." I said impatiently. This is sure going to be a long night.
He propped up on his feet and went over to open the car door for me as I walk towards it. "It's good you're taking my advice, keep practicing being a gentleman."
"I can be whatever I want Areezah." he said simply. He closed the door after I have gotten in. He also went over to his side and got in. The engine revved immediately.
"Where are we going?" I asked, as he was speeding down a narrow path of the street. It wasn't like I was scared but at least I should know where we were heading to.
"Don't worry I'm not going to kill you," he said and chuckled silently. A slow music was playing and I kept shut all the way to our destination.
After riding for 30minutes, we were parked at a restaurant I haven't even seen before. It was an expensive one from its front view, was he planning to spend so much?
"Why have you brought me here? I mean we have many restaurants close-by to our house," I asked.
"Well, I love doing things my way." he say before clicking the car door open. Before I could even click mine, he had already opened the door for me. I got out of the car with my head held down.
We made our way into the restaurant and sat on a table. I looked around and see couples everywhere, every one of them finding interest in their partner.
"If not because you don't want to look at me we would've been like them," Jameel muttered. His attention was on me as I was looking at a particular couple who were staring at each other lovey dovey-ish.
"They probably got married willingly" he didn't get to reply then the waiter came. We gave him our orders and he excused himself going back to get them.
"What made you agree to this alliance?" the question has been bothering me and there wouldn't be a better opportunity than now. "It's clear that we are more like enemies so why did you?"
He was drumming his fingers on the table pondering over my question. "I'm glad you know that I don't like you, but what's the fun if I tell you my motives behind this marriage?"
I won't lie that it hurts for him to say it out loud that he didn't like me. It actually felt real now.
"I have apologized to you haven't I? What do you want me to do?" I was at the tip of begging. I didn't want to continue with this anymore.
"Aww you're giving up already? The game hasn't even started." He said boastfully, this shouldn't be happening.
"You take everything for a game right? I promise you that I'll be the Victorious one at the end." my mouth was something that could land me in trouble. I didn't want to be called weak.
"So much confidence! Perfect, it'd be nice to crush every bit of it. Why have you also agreed to the marriage when you know that I'll ruin your life?" he asked. The waiter arrived with our orders and placed it on the table respectively.
"And why should I tell you when you didn't either?"
He laughed.
"Can I say something?" he asked I nodded and he went on. "I'll make note of this day Areezah, the day you made two promises in one night. You promised not to say that my face is good looking and you promised that you'll ace me in this game."
"Yes, I have trust in myself so much that I believe I'm not going to back down."
He laughed again.
"Jameel you'll also regret saying all these." I told him.
"Areezah, I promise you I won't."
