Today is the engagement. Where it'd be promised that I'll be given to a man. Where it'd be announced that yes, I've gotten a husband and it won't even take time to get married because there are only seven days left. Normally, engagements could last even for three years but based on the family's press need at the moment it was in one week.
I was feeling giddy and strange to be honest, whereas everyone else is happy and jubilating I can't wait for everything to be over.
Imaan burst the door to my room open with two flowing gowns of her size, grinning ear to ear before settling on the bed beside me.
"which one will suit me Ya Aree?" she asks, running her hand over one with beautiful design on its front.
"Well, you already got the idea," I muse and she planted a big smile on her face.
"You know I'm going to miss you, I wouldn't want you to leave because you're my favorite person,"she say, her mood changing. Imaan is the person I'll miss the most really, she is my favorite person likewise.
"But, you know what? I'm not stressed or bothered because I know you're in good hands. You know I always pray everyday to Allah that you find a man that'd make you happy, now I'm thanking him that he has given you Ya Jameel, he's nice and gentle plus handsome!"
If anyone had told me this, I'd deny it that Imaan doesn't talk like this, but now my baby is all grown up.
I don't know whether I should be happy about what she said or not, I don't know why everyone thinks Jameel is nice and sweet, was I the only one he dislikes? The feeling is mutual if yes.
"Okay, Imaan baby. Thank you but me getting married doesn't mean I'm never going to come back, besides you're also going to come for holidays isn't that?" I say, trying to forget what she had said about Jameel.
"Of course! Okay gotta go for now!" she scurried out of my room feeling elated. Even if she doesn't know, one day the truth will prevail that I'm doing everything for them, I'll try my best to do what is right.
Our house was fully packed with guests, cousins, and other relatives. I couldn't count how many times have squatted down as a sign of respect while greeting them.
I was not even feeling hungry but I was thirsty. I decided to make myself a cup of orange juice and I headed to the kitchen.
I picked the oranges from the fridge and rinsed it under water.
Inna came into the kitchen as I was getting the knife which was mounted on the wall. "oh hey, Inna haven't seen you for the whole of yesterday," I greeted.
She smiled broadly showing her pearl white teeth. "maddam, you know work is too muching and again yesterday you go out," she said, the classes have had with her are complicated because I've been going on and off and also things happening lately have restricted us.
"Inna I have told you before, speak fluent English with me. Even if you don't want to speak to others, exclude me. "I say feigning anger, she laughed dramatically.
"It's becoming harder-" I cut her off by correcting her. "hard, "
"Yes hard, I'll trying my best because I cannot deny you. But now that you're getting wedding, I won't get to attend classing again," she muses with a frown etched on her face.
"Actually, I was about to discuss that with you." I had thought about it that why not, after my marriage Inna could still come at my leisure time to improve her English and besides its a plus for me, since I won't get bored in the house. She was someone that could easily be talked too.
