"LANDON!" NATALIE EXCLAIMS HAPPILY as she approaches the boy. They had stayed the night in New Orleans before making their way back to Mystic Falls where Natalie decided to take it upon herself to convince Landon to be the anchor for the Other Side.
He stopped walking and looked at Natalie, "What do you want?"
"I want to give your life a purpose that it has been lacking," Natalie states, "Hope and I have found a way to stop Malivore and since it's kind of your fault that all this stuff is even happening, we think that you should also be a part of the solution."
Landon stares at her begrudgingly, "Go on."
"The Other Side. It was this place where supernatural creatures could go after they died. If we reconstruct it, Malivore can't absorb any monsters. All we have to do is exterminate and they're gone for good. Problem is that we need an anchor."
"An anchor?" Landon asks, "What's that?"
"It's an immortal creature that holds everything together. You, being an unkillable phoenix, would make a perfect anchor."
"Is there anything bad that comes along with being the anchor?" Landon asks and Natalie sighs, knowing that this was the point where she was going to lose Landon.
"You'll be able to feel every death of every supernatural creature ever," Natalie states and Landon opens his mouth to protest, "But my aunt was the anchor once, and look at her! She's thriving!"
"Yeah, because she's not the anchor anymore!" Landon exclaims, "I would spend the rest of my life feeling everyone's deaths."
"Fine," Natalie says, "But Hope's going to be very disappointed to hear that you don't want to do this."
"Why do I care? She doesn't want me. You're her mate."
Natalie's lips turn up in a very satisfied smile, "I am her mate. Remember that."
Natalie senses Hope before she sees her, she looks down the hall just as the tribrid is turning a corner. When she sees Natalie speaking to Landon, a frown crosses her lips and Natalie knows that she's messed up.
"What are you two talking about?" Hope asks as she approaches the two of them.
"I asked Landon to be the anchor," Natalie answers.
"I told you that I would handle that," Hope says, her voice low, but Natalie can hear the annoyance.
"Yes, well I was so excited to ask Landon that it may have slipped my mind," Natalie says, causing Landon to scoff.
"Yeah, I'm definitely not doing it," Landon answers, turning to head down the hall.
"You should have let me handle it!" Hope tells her.
