Annabeth woke up to the sun kissed light of dawn playing through the glass windows of the Athena Cabin. Averting her bleary eyes from the morning sun, she climbed out of her bunk, the sound also waking up her siblings in the process.

Black combat boots adorned her closet, gifts from her Egyptian friend Sadie. Annabeth smiled as she emptied sand from her favourite pair remembering her picnic with Percy just last night.

Though the couple was terribly cliché, their dates didn't usually result in your typical checkered blanket picnics or strolls along the beach. That particular time, they had opted for a picnic underwater, talking and laughing with Percy occasionally having conversations with passing by fish.

Her boyfriend had shown her his favourite spots under the lake, pointing out beautiful corals, sea life that he loved to hang out with and occasionally breaking out into off-key re-inactions of  Under The Sea.

They had stayed in that bubble until the sun set, the waters surrounding them turning the colours into a blur of warm tones like the inside of a kaleidoscope.  They had sat in comfortable silence until the shrill shriek of the harpies sounded around camp as the creatures set off on their hunt.

Both of them stood up reluctantly, before dashing to their cabins, smothering laughter as they ran.

" Bye Wise Girl! " Percy called, giving a wave as he ran away from Cabin 6. Annabeth watched as he did an exaggerated  karate chop before doing a front handspring and a backflip pretending to sneak around the greek style cabins like a ninja. He finished his act with a front flip, a combat move she had recently taught him.

His Nike trainers hit the ground, the worn soles creating an echoing sound. Percy's eyes comically widened, and his head whipped around making this dishevelled hair messier than usual. He sprinted towards Cabin 3, promptly closing the door before being devoured by the patrol harpies.

Annabeth chuckled quietly as she entered her cabin.

The daughter of Athena was brought out of her flashback by the sound of her siblings rushing around their cabin, getting ready for the day. Still with a smile etched on her face, she pulled on a CHB sweatshirt and tattered jeans, running over to the Poseidon Cabin. Her pace only slowed when she saw the door of Cabin 3 slightly ajar. Percy never woke up this early in the morning, at least not without a fight.

She entered her boyfriends cabin, immediately overcome with a familiar ocean scent. She picked up one of the many pictures covering  the walls, smiling not only at the picture of her, Percy and Grover but also at the carefree glint in their eyes. This had been taken before the Sea Of Monsters quest.

She set the photo down on the nightstand and glanced at her boyfriends bed. The blue comforter was messy and splayed across the plain white bed covering. She chuckled at Percy's childish side as she picked up the assortment of Finding Nemo plushes and pillows that littered the ground. Annabeth wrinkled her nose in slight disgust at the fresh spot of drool on the mattress but it quickly turned to a faraway smile as she reminisced on her first time meeting Percy.

As she stepped closer, she realized that this wasn't just Percy's usual mess or act of carelessness but the scene in front of her seemed forced, almost like the person sleeping here was dragged away against their will.

Brushing it aside, she walked to the dining pavilion, a frown crossing her features once her grey eyes landed on the empty Poseidon table. Malcolm shot her a concerned look once she sat down at the Athena table.

" Are you okay? " He asked

Annabeth replied with a small smile. " Fine "

Her brother didn't look convinced and his concerned expression only deepened when he followed Annabeth's gaze to the empty table she was glaring at.

" Is it Percy? " He questioned " I don't care how many worlds he's saved. If he broke your heart, I will break his face "

She let out a breathy laugh but it quickly died in her throat. Figuring that her boyfriend had just escaped to the lake as he did from time to time, she stood, promptly knocking her glass of lemon sparkling water over.

After many flustered apologies, she ran to the shores of CHB and assessed the surrounding beach, ruling out any possibility of Percy being on its shores.

Annabeth sat in the warm sand, the foamy waters lapping over her feet. She almost expected Percy to jump out of the water and pull her in, encasing them in a bubble like he did when they first got together.

But he didn't

After as long as an ADHD kid could stand sitting still at the shore front, Annabeth fished out a golden drachma and threw it into the pockets of rainbow rippling on the waters surface.

" Oh Iris, Goddess of the rainbow, show me Percy Jackson "

The surface rippled as the IM started to form but it was immediately stopped by a velvety voice. The sound was soft and delicate, yet the words it mustered cut through Annabeth's heart.

" Percy Jackson cannot be found "

Annabeth sunk to her knees as the truth crashed into her, more violent that the waves of the churning sea.

Perseus Jackson was gone.

I was going to do just some good ol' Percabeth fluff for this chapter but I just had to go and make it sad. Anyway, I did want to do something where Annabeth found out that Percy's missing before the giant war so here you go.....
