"Whew, that was close!" Jordan declared after shutting the door, "Jace would have been so mad with you guys if he found out that we were sorta stalking his behavior."

"Well, the whole point was that he did not find out about our, um, slight obsession. And in this case, mission accomplished. At least I hope so." Maia said.

"I hope so too. From what I have discovered, Jace is good at decoding things. I'm pretty sure that whole 'surprise party' thing was a cover up." I stated.

"I doubt he could uncover our excellent acting skills." Magnus said with a grin.

"Yes, because no one could decode 'Um, Jace, we were just, uh, reading our.. Codex.' Oh Alec, great job with that cover up, by the way." Simon said sarcastically.

Alec shot Simon an irritated glance. "Oh, well, I didn't see you come up with anything, Daylighter."

"Well actually--" Simon started.

"Alright, that's enough you two. Stop bickering. You are acting like toddlers." Isabelle interrupted.

"Yeah, seriously, guys. Chill out!" Jordan said, "I'm sure we will all be fine. There is no way Jace could have known what we are up to."

(Jace's POV)

totally know what they are up to. They have been noticing my abnormal behavior and are doing research to try and stop it. They have been acting really strange around me for weeks. It could not be more obvious. "And they think they can outwit me." I say to myself with a scoff.

I can't stop thinking about what Sebastian said. His voice echos in my head, 'I have come to see if you would accept my plea for mercy.' It makes no sense. Why would he want mercy from me? I have a feeling it isn't just about this mercy thing. He must want something greater and this is the first step. He was acting like I am a crucial part of his plan. I must be in deep and, now, there is probably no way out.
