The rune on my chest was glowing slightly after Sebastian vanished. I have finally figured out the philosophy behind this madness. Apparently, as I just learned, the rune on my chest binds me to Sebastian. He said for me to ‘communicate to him’ through the rune that ‘Max’ drew on me in a dream. All of my strange behaviors, sudden pulses of travel drawing me towards a location, have been because of him.
I find myself wandering to Magnus’s apartment, this time on my own will. I climb up his Brooklyn-apartment steps and ring the doorbell. The door is opened by Magnus, himself, surrounded by Alec, Isabelle, Simon, Maia, Jordan, and Clary, all in a huddle. They all looked a little startled to see me.
“J-J-Jace!” Isabelle stuttered, “What are you doing here?”

“The real question is why are all of you here?” I responded.

"We were, uh, studying our... Codex." stammered Alec.

"Sure you were." I say with a sly grin, "What are you up to?"

Everyone had stupid grins plastered across their faces. That was a tell-tale sign that they knew something. I push my way past them to the table where books were open and spread out across the table.

"Doing some demon research, were you?" I remarked, "This is not what I would do in my free time, but it's your brain."

"Actually, um, no we weren't Jace. Well, actually, sorta. It's complicated." Clary responded nervously.

"Okay then. I have a feeling that I know that you guys are up to." I stated.

"W-What do you think we are doing, Jace?" Maia stuttered.

"You guys are planning me a surprise birthday party for me? You guys are too kind!" I respond with a laugh.

"Your birthday is three and a half months away." Alec said.

"That's what makes it such a surprise!"

Simon slapped his forehead and Alec just shook his head.

"Oh, Jace." Magnus stated, "Even in your darkest times, you still manage to slip sarcasm into your everyday conversations."

"Well, um, Jace. We need to get back to studying." Jordan replied while shooting an annoyed glance at Alec, "So, I believe, it's time for you to leave."

Just as I was saying goodbye, I was shoved out the door into the hallway. I said my last regards and made my way down the rickety-apartment steps.
