You wake up to your alarm blaring in your ear. You hadn't woken up this early in forever. Back in America, you went online, due to COVID-19. In Europe, the virus was rare, so your parents had you go to normal school again. It would definitely take some getting used to. You were weirdly excited for today. You weren't sure if it was for the fresh start or what, but you were just glad you weren't having a panic attack. You look at your clock which reads 6:30. Tommy said that he usually leaves around 7:30, so you had about an hour. You were a big breakfast person, so you decided to eat first. No one was home still, and you weren't sure when they would be. You whip up some pancake batter, since you have the extra time. They cook quickly and you put a few blueberries on top. At least you had some food now that Sheryl went shopping. You finish the meal and rinse your plate. You knew picking your outfit would take the longest, so you started with that. The weather was similar to yesterday, so you wanted to wear something warm. A shirt catches your eye. It is a purple knit sweater that would go perfect with jeans. You decide that is what you are going to wear. You head to the bathroom and take your hair out of the braids. It came out wavy, as always. You weren't one for a lot of makeup, but you decided to wear a little. You do your eyebrows, blush, and mascara and call it a day. You check the clock seeing that you have about 15 minutes before Tommy would be ready to go. You put on your outfit and got your school bag ready. You are about to leave when you see Tommy's sweatshirt still on the chair from last night. You panic for a moment, but realize that he said you could have hit. With a deep breath and a smile, you head out the door. It was about 7:25, so you had a few minutes before Tommy would be ready. To pass the time, you sit on a brick divider in front of his house and put your earbuds in. You were silently listening to music and watching cars. Then you feel something tap your arm and you flinch.

"Tommy! You scared me!"

"Oh, sorry I didn't mean to. Ready?"

"Ready as I can be!"

"Yeah, how are you feeling about today?"

"Pretty okay actually! It is nice knowing there will be a familiar face in most of my classes."

You smile at him and he smiles back. You put your earbuds away and begin on your walk. It was a bit cold but not freezing. Tommy was wearing a navy sweater with jeans. As you get closer to the school, your nerves pick up. You hadn't seen the school in person at all yet, and it was huge. It wouldn't be as big of a deal normally, but you hadn't been in person in so long. You had also never been a new kid before, especially not in the middle of the year. Tommy noticed you getting nervous and reassured you.

"Hey! It is okay! You will have someone in nearly all of your classes! And graphic design is mostly independent work anyway, so don't worry about that. I will introduce you to Freddy and Erin, so you will know two more people And don't worry about lunch either! I told them about you last night, and they want to meet you, so you can sit with us if you want!"

He told his friends about me?

"Thanks, Tommy it means a lot!'

You finally reach the doors of the school, and Tommy opens them up for you. You give him a nod and look around. A few people glanced in your direction, but everyone seemed to be involved with their own stuff. You hear someone yell for Tommy in the distance, and assume it was the Freddy and Erin he had mentioned earlier.

Maybe today won't be so bad.

You and Tommy walk towards where the noise came from.

"Hey Freddies and Erin! This is Y/N, my neighbor. I think I told you a bit about her last night?"

"A bit? You told a whole novel!"

Freddie laughs and Tommy pushes him.

"Hi, I am Freddie, nice to meet you!"

"Nice to meet you too! I would introduce myself, but I guess you already know me."

"Yeah, a bit. I am Erin by the way."

"Nice to meet you too Erin!"

"Y/N, I have to say you look amazing."

"Thanks Freddie!"

You look over at Tommy who shoots Freddie a look. Tommy looks red and Freddie goes quiet.

Are they fighting?

"So you're American, yeah?"

"Yep, moved here from New York, if you've ever heard of it."

"Of course I have! Isn't that place famous?"

"I suppose."

"That's sick!"

Freddie is taller than Erin, but a lot skinnier. He is very pale and has dark hair that covers most of his forehead. Erin has shorter hair and darker skin. Erin seems quite fit as well.

"So I heard you and Tommy have class together?"

"Yeah, Y/N and I have all but 4th together."

"Yeah, it's nice! Good to know someone! Would I have any classes with you two?"

"Yeah, I have graphic design with you!"

"That's good, Freddie! I thought I would be alone in that class?"

"Don't worry about it! You have me!"

Freddie winks at you and you blush. Tommy steps a bit closer and shoots a glare at Freddie again. What was going on between them? You had no time to think about it before you heard the bell ring.

"Well me and Y/N better get going. See you both at lunch!'

"See you then!"

You and Tommy leave the group and he leads you down a busy hallway, staying close to you.

"They were nice!"

"Yeah, just be careful around Freddie, okay?"

"Okay, is something going on between you two?"

"Not sure, just be careful."

He looks into your eyes and you nod. He was intimidating, but he made you feel safe. It was as if he was protecting you from something, you just weren't sure what. You stay close to Tommy as you walk into your first class of the day, pre-calculus. You loved math, and were usually pretty good at it. You look at the board to see the words "Free Seating" in bold black letters. Tommy leads you to the back left corner and sits down. You were sitting by the window and him right next to you. You hear the late bell ring and your nerves spike.
