"I don't care what you think, Sarah is someone special to me and I will do anything to protect her, even if she isn't ready to admit her feelings. I damn well know she has them, so just remember your place here, you are a worker.  You both might develop a friendship, but any other ideas put them out of your head" I heard Steve all but growl at Devon.

What in the hell is going on down there, I walked into the kitchen and saw Devon's face red as all hell, Steve stood there in the middle of the kitchen inches from Devon.

"What is going on in here?" I asked, both men turned to face me, Steve's face softened when he saw me, I could tell he did a quick check making sure I was good.

He always did that, and that little gesture did warm my heart, Devon smiled as if nothing was ever wrong in the world. "Nothing my dear, just us men having a talk is all" Steve said.

"I wanted to stop by and see how the roof went, and I will admit it is looking good, you both accomplished a lot today" Steve said as he stood there. "Thank you, Devon has been a big help with this project" I said as I went to start dinner.

I turned to Steve, "Are you going to stay for dinner, or do you have the night shift again?" I asked him. "Tonight, I'm off duty, the guys at the station know how to get ahold of me if I'm needed, I hope that's okay that I stay for dinner?" he asked.

"Well of course it's okay, I did invite you, didn't I?" I asked laughing as I went to the pantry to grab what I needed. The rest of the time, both guys sat at the table while I prepared dinner.

Each asked if I needed help and I told them no, I wasn't about to have a standoff in my kitchen when I can do this without the drama from them. It was enough as they both sat there giving each other dirty looks from time to time.

I swear and I thought the hens were bad enough in town, these two could give them a run for their money.

Once dinner was ready, both men set the table and got the drinks, I just smiled and shook my head. The three of us sat down and ate our dinner, the first half was a weird silent phase.

Enough of this bull shit I thought, so I preceded to talk about what I wanted to do with the farm, which set everyone at ease, and we all had an enjoyable time, well let's say I did, at this point I didn't care if the other two did or didn't.

After dinner I did the dishes while I brewed a pot of coffee, "in a bit Sarah, I wanted to take you over to my place to see the new babies that were delivered a couple of weeks ago" Steve said.

I turned, "I would love that, I just love babies" I said smiling. That was one thing Steve always knew would brighten any kind of day I've had. Put me around baby animals and I was happy as can be and a bad day was gone.

"You don't mind if I tag along, and see your farm, might give me ideas that Sarah was talking about, she was telling me today about a few things that you had going she was interested in but not being the same thing" Devon said.

"Sure, if Sarah is good with it?" Steve said looking at me, "I don't mind, and that actually would be a good thing, because Steve has a beautiful farm that one day, I hope to have this one like that" I said.

After having my coffee on my porch swing, we went over to Steve's farm. I spent the next hour hugging and loving every baby animal Steve had. From horses to goats to a few calves.

Steves farm was simply perfect, his was one I was modeling mine after. Everything was always clean, well as clean as it can be, being on a farm. His vegetable garden was one that I wanted.

There was about an acre of trees between our farms, I always thought about clearing that part, so our farms overlooked each other, but until mine was up and running I didn't want mine to be an eyesore on his.

We had coffee on Steve porch, which was like mine except his has planters of flowers everywhere. His mother loved giving it a homey touch to it. She always said everything was just too plain to her taste.

She was a sweet woman and was always kind to me, but then again, I don't think that woman ever had a mean bone in her body.

After coffee I said my goodbyes to Steve and told him I would see him later on, I knew he would stop by at night to make sure everything was good. Even if we just saw each other I have come to accept it.

It made Steve feel better that everything was going nice and smooth, and I was in for the night, he would do a walk around just to make sure nothing was out of the norm.

Once home Devon went to his room without saying a word and I heard his door shut. I just rolled my eyes, men I thought. Grabbing an iced tea with lemon, I went and sat out on the swing.

The sun was about to set, so I got up and lit the lanterns that lined the porch. The lanterns just gave enough of a glow to make the porch a romantic spot if one desired that effect.

I went inside and grabbed a light blanket to wrap around me a bit while I sat on the swing and drank my iced tea. Sitting there I could hear the crickets waking up and do their calling.

It was definitely going to be a warm night which I didn't mind. I could sit out here for hours and enjoy the night and all the sounds that accompanied it.

I didn't see Steve or Devon for the rest of the night, I figured Devon probably passed out early from all the work today and knowing Steve his mother called and wanted a run-down of everything that was going on in town.

His mother would never gossip in town, but she wanted all the details from her son, since he was the main source of information, and she knew he would tell her just to make her happy.
