I woke up to the smell of coffee brewing, I knew I slept downstairs since my bed is down here still. But I don't remember setting the coffee timer. I opened my eyes and saw Steve making breakfast.

I am relieved that he's okay, but I noticed he's still in his uniform and there's a dozen red roses in a vase on the kitchen table. Okay he's not on my shit list anymore but still sore from not knowing anything yet.

I got up out of bed and went into the kitchen, "good morning, Steve" I said as I walked past him and went right to my coffee. I figured before I could actually have a decent conversation, I needed my sweet, sweet coffee.

Steve stood there waiting for me to get what I needed and to sit down at the kitchen table. Amazing he already knows my habits, but then again, I am a creature of habit.

We sat there quietly for a few minutes while I woke up and enjoyed the silence with my coffee. "So, you going to tell me why I didn't hear from you?" I asked him.

"Let me start by saying I am really sorry I didn't call you, I got called into work for some situation and we ended up having to go to the next town over to work with their department. I just got off work and came right here baby" he said reaching for my hand.

"I promise I will make it up to you Sarah", I looked at him and I noticed the dark circles under his eyes, like he hadn't slept all week, and the stubble on his face that was more than the five o'clock shadow.

"I'm not mad at you Steve, I was just really worried, I didn't even know you got called into work, what good is a phone if I'm not even told what's going on? I was just left here to wonder a lot of things" I told him as I got myself more coffee.

"You're right that's my fault and I won't let it happen again" Steve vowed as he walked over to the coffee pot and took ahold of my hands.

"Baby I love you and I wouldn't ever stand you up, or leave you hanging, that I promise". I looked at him and smiled, "why don't you go home, feed your animals and get out of those clothes and get some sleep. I'll be by your place in a few hours?" I told him.

Steve gave me a kiss on my lips, "sounds like a plan, and one of these days I have to teach you the feeding schedule of my animals so that way you can help me around my place and get used to the horse I'm giving you" he said.

I wrapped my arms around him, "I would like that a lot sweetie" I kissed him. We stayed like that for a few minutes just kissing each other and enjoying being with one another.

Steve left to go home for a while, and I fixed myself something to eat. I wanted to get an early start on the second barn so that way hopefully by next week they both will be ready.

The second barn has six stalls and a space to hold the extra feed. Luckily for me the third barn that would hold the straw and hay for the animals was still in perfect shape.

That will be delivered next Monday, and I can't wait. I'll be able to finally get the stalls set up. I ordered the tiller online; I still don't want to deal with the town right now.

Once the tiller is here, I can work out front and get the gardens in shape with how I want them. I am looking forward to that. I placed an order for ten roses and a bunch of other plants and flowers online and to be delivered in two weeks. It will be mid-July and the hottest time of the year.

For the better half of the day, I was working on the second barn. The roof was finished, and I just finished replacing most of the stall walls. I put in the new watering buckets and the hay racks.

I looked at my watch, it was going on three in the afternoon. I looked myself over and laughed. I looked like a mess; I was walking towards the house when I noticed a car pull-up that I had never seen before.

Wishing Steve would be up and here with me, I always get nervous when a strange car pulls up and there's three men inside of it. My heart picked up speed a little bit.

I stood there watching them sit in the car looking at me, it was like a standoff, but I was the only one standing, the three men got out of the car, and speak of the devil Steve pulled up in his cop car.

My heart relaxed as well as my nerves, Steve didn't look happy at all, but not towards me, but at the strangers.

Steve walked over to me and checked me out and smiled. "I see you have been busy baby" he said.

"I was just about to go shower when I noticed this car and those guys inside of it pull up, they haven't gotten out just staring at me". I said, "and those wonderful little shivers that run through you had to hit just then.

Steve turned to face them and decided to stand next to me, he was waiting on them to make the first move.

"I can tell from here, that they aren't from around here, they are from the big city but which one no idea since the license plate is a basic one from around here, which means they have connections, or they don't want to be recognized" he said quietly to me.

"Well, this is getting stupid just standing here" I said. They must have read my lips because all three doors opened up and the men stepped out. Holy shit they were massive, like bodybuilder massive and tall, so it made it even scarier.

"Are you Sarah Martin?" The guy asked, he was the driver." "Can I ask what's this is about?" I called out. The three guys walked over to where Steve and I was standing.

Okay so next to Steve they were about the same height around six-foot three give or take, I think Steve felt a bit better knowing they wouldn't be towering over us, just me.

"We are here in regard to a man named Devon Shire, he escaped custody when he was being transferred to another prison, we had inside sources tell us that you were the only one he was obsessed about" the main guy said.

"Yes, I'm Sarah, and am I in any danger?" I asked, starting to get nervous. I was so happy that Steve was here, hearing all of this with me for the first time. He would know what precautions to use.

"At this time, we aren't sure, all he kept going on about is getting back to you to raise the family he started and to make sure you were always barefoot and pregnant while he took care of his farm" the man said.

I stood there in shock, "his farm? That is a bunch of bull shit this is my farm, and no one is going to think or take that away from me, he can go fuck off for all I care, I do not want him here" I almost yelled.

I was pissed, how dare Devon think this was his farm, cold day in hell if he thought that would happen.

The men could see I was getting pissed and they relaxed knowing I wasn't hiding him around here.
