Chapter Eleven

I could hear voices around me, why could I hear voices? Am I dead and this is heaven? I tried to open my eyes, but the lights hurt. "It hurts" I whispered. "Turn down the lights, she's trying to open her eyes" I heard a voice say.

Wait a minute I know that voice, "Steve?", "I'm here Sarah, don't try to move baby girl, you're in the hospital. I came by your place and saw you laying on the floor in front of the stairs with a lot of blood around you, I am so sorry for not being there for you, I was an idiot" he cried.

Steve was actually crying; I slowly opened my eyes and saw that the room was much darker, so it was easier to look around. I was in a hospital bed with IV's attached to my arm.

I saw Steve sitting beside my bed with his head in his hands crying quietly. "Steve" I croaked, he looked up right away and came to my side. He took my hand without all the IV's and kissed it and held on to it.

"It's okay, I understood even though it killed me that I lost you over what someone else did" I whispered. My throat hurt like hell; it was on fire. Steve grabbed the cup that had a straw in it.

"Small sips sweetheart, too much and you will throw it up" he said softly. He put the straw up to my lips and I took two small sips. It felt so wonderful soothing my throat.

"We have a lot to talk about though Steve, you crushed my heart and soul" I told him, his face fell but he knew what he had done, and I wasn't about to forgive him that easily.

"I know it will take a long time and I am going to do everything I can to make it up to you and never leave your side again no matter what," he said holding on to my hand.

Just then the DR walked in, hello Sarah, I'm dr. Thornton. I wanted to talk to you about what happened and what you will need to recover at home with" he said, looking between Steve and me.

"It's okay dr. Steve can stay and hear this" I told him. The dr. nodded. "Sarah, you ended up having a miscarriage, you weren't that far along but for some reason you weren't eating and had lost a lot of weight.

Your body is stabilized, but when you go home, you are to be on bed rest for one week and you are to eat and drink a healthy drink around the clock. Do you have someone at home to help you?" he asked.

I closed my eyes, could I rely on Steve, this is the moment truth will prevail. "I will be staying with her and taking care of her, I already put a leave of absence in at work, I'm sure my deputies can handle a week without me there" Steve said.

I opened my eyes, "you did that already? For me?" I asked him in surprise. "Baby girl I told you I would move heaven and earth for you, I have a lot of making up to do, to do right by you from now on" he said.

The dr. told us I could go home within the next hour. 'Steve, are you sure you want to do this?" I asked him, letting him know he can back out before I get home.

"You are never getting rid of me Sarah, I'm in love with you and I was just being stupid and childish, you are my life, my love and I will always be by your side" he said and leaned down and kissed my lips softly.

I grabbed his shirt as he went to stand up, "once I'm better I want you to show me how much you love me in every room of that house, then at yours" I whispered.

Steve brightened right up, "oh love, you don't have anything to worry about, that is a promise that will always be kept, I will never stop loving you baby" 

Steve brought me home, and he already had the bed downstairs for me in the family room. He knew I wanted it down there since I could see the kitchen and it had a nice fireplace in case, I wanted a fire if the power went out.

The bed was against the one wall where I could look out the big bay window that overlooked the hills in the distance and the woods. It was always the best scenery to look at, especially in the morning when the sun was rising.

Steve settled me in the bed, made sure I was propped up and he even bought a tray table that moves so I could push it away if I wanted. He had thought of everything.

I noticed a new television also in here above the fireplace, "what is that" I pointed to it. "Babe, that is a television" he said and then started to laugh, "I know that you're a dork, but why is there on in here, I don't have cable?" I asked but gave him a look.

I just realized what he did, he got cable and a phone put into this house for me. "I won't accept anything but a thank you and I will accept your generous gifts" he said as he kissed me.

I had to laugh, "I guess I will have to" I told him as I stuck my tongue out at him and we both laughed. 

Steve made dinner and he sat with me while we ate, he cleaned up the kitchen, and after I was set, he ran home really quick to feed and take care of his animals. His mother was coming there to do the things for the week while he was with me.

Once I was better, she wanted to meet the woman who finally was making him husband material. She for sure thought that I was going to be a bachelor my whole life.

Steve said that night after he got back from taking care of everything at his place. The bed was big enough for both of us, but he was making his bed on the couch, "it is just for the first night my love" is what he told me.

"It better be, because the rest of the time I want you in bed next to me" I told him. He smiled and kissed me. We went to bed that night content and back as partly a couple.
