A few nights later, on Friday, your mom told you that she was going up to Kansas to see your Aunt Callie. Most of your family lived up in Kansas, but you decided to stay in Tulsa, just because you and your brother liked it there. You had to change schools when you moved house, but you liked staying in Oklahoma.

Your mother said that you could stay home alone, or stay the weekend at a friend's house. You decided to stay at the Curtis house. You said bye to your mom and she told you she'd drop you off at the Curtis house. She wanted to make sure they'd take good care of you, so she drove you over there. You knocked this time. Darry opened the door.

"Hi y/n, ya know ya don't have to knock. Who's this?"

"This is my mom," you told him. They shook hands and then he motioned for you two to come in. You went into Pony's room, and your mom sat on the couch and talked to Darry.

"Hey Ponyboy, Johnny!" You said excitedly.

"Hi," they answered back.

"Guess what!"

"What?" said Pony.

"My mom is going up to Kansas for the weekend so I get to stay here!"

"Can you really?" asked Pony happily.

"Yep! Are you gonna stay too Johnnycake?"

"Sure. I mean like, my parents don't care anyway. So....yes," he said.

"Great, but where do we both sleep?"

"Umm....I'll ask Darry." He went to go ask him but you told him to wait. "Why?" he asked. "Cause he's talkin' to my mom."

"Oh alright. When we hear the door close, let's go out there and tackle him."

"Yeah!" you and Johnny said at the same time. You looked at each other and laughed.

A few minutes later, you heard the door slam.

"Alright, let's go," you whispered. You slowly opened the door and crept out.

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!" you three yelled as you charged out at Darry. Y'all tackled him to the ground and started wrestling. You loved that you were all like family. You wouldn't have it any other way.

"Alright, alright, lay off," said Darry as he got up. You all got off.

"Darry, y/n's stayin' for the weekend!"

"I know, her mom told me."

"Where's she gon' sleep?" Pony asked.

"Hmmm," said Darry. "Um, well, y/n, you can sleep on the couch, and Johnny, do you mind if we just put a few layers of blankets and a pillow on the floor for you? If not you can stay on the armchair."

"It's fine with me," he said. Then he looked at you. "Good with me," you said.

You played a few rounds of charades, then Soda and Steve walked in from work.

"Hi Ponygirl," said Steve. He looked at Soda and they both laughed. You and Ponyboy both rolled your eyes, but then smiled at each other and laughed with Steve and Sodapop.

"For the last time, she ain't my girlfriend. She's just a friend. And she's stayin' the weekend."

"Here? Why?" asked Soda.

"My mom's goin' up to Kansas for the weekend so I'm stayin' here," you explained.

"Oh," said Soda. "Johnny, ain't you stayin' too?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Don't ya both need a place to sleep?"

"We have that settled out," said Darry. He explained the plan to Soda and Steve. Dally walked in casually. The other boys didn't smoke when you were around, but Dally didn't care. He did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. So he sat down on the couch and smoked. And everyone knew not to tell him what to do. Then Two Bit came in. Darry suggested you all play outside, so all of you went to play football. Ponyboy, you, and Johnny were on a team, and since you three were the smallest, you got Darry. Everyone else was on the other team.

After two games of football and some dinner, you all decided to go to bed. Darry and Pony put a bunch of blankets on the floor for Johnny, and then they gave one to you. You all went to sleep.
