The next morning, you woke up to the sound of Mickey Mouse. Good, there aren't three people standing over me, you thought.
"Morning y/n," said Pony.
"Hi Pony," you answered. He walked over and took your hands and pulled you up from the couch.
"Want some eggs y/n?"
"Nah. I'll just have the pancakes. Thanks though, Darry."
"Hey Soda, where's the cake?" asked Steve.
"We don't got none,"
"Darn."
"We gotta go to the grocery store anyway," said Darry.
"Can I come?" you asked. You took Pony's hand, still looking up at Darry, waiting for an answer.
"Yeah. Who else wants to come? Ponyboy, I assume you're going," he said, looking down at your hands.
"Imma come, I ain't gonna go to my house," said Johnny.
"Ok, that's it?"
"Well, I'm going, I have off today. Cmon Steve, ya can help us pick the cake mix," said Sodapop.
"Alright," Steve whispered something in Soda's ear, then he whispered something back. You assumed it was about you and Pony.
"What are they talking about?" whispered Ponyboy in your ear.
"Probably us," you said.
"I get off early today, so...get yourselves some lunch. I'll be back before three," said Darry, walking out the door.
After breakfast, Dally came in. You were leaning on Pony's shoulder again, now just because you felt like it. Mickey was on the TV.
"Ok man, now you're awake and on his shoulder...there's gotta be something goin' on," said Dallas, pointing at you and Pony. Soda must really like whispering in people's ears because he ran up to Dally and did exactly that. Then Soda sat back down in the armchair. Dally sat on the couch next to you. He took out a cigarette and a lighter and smoked. You rolled your eyes and went into the kitchen. Pony came after you.
"Hey Pony," you said, on your toes trying to reach the top shelf. You saw a candy bar and you wanted it.
"Need help?" he asked.
"Nope."
"Sure?"
"Ok, yes I do need help. Lift me?"
"Yep," he said as he lifted you on top of the counter. You took the candy from the shelf, unwrapped it, and took a bite. Then you put it in front of Pony's face and he bit it. You walked to the living room.
"Hey! Why does she get chocolate?" said Steve, hastily standing up.
"Cause I worked for it," you said.
"I literally have a job!" Steve yelled.
"Fine, fine, here," you said as you broke off a piece for Steve. He examined it, then shoved it in his mouth.
"Ugh, Dallas, why you gotta smoke so much?"
"Cause I wanna."
"Cmon Pony, let's go outside," you said. You pulled his hand through the door, away from the smell of smoke.
"Where should we go?" you asked.
"I'll go get my money and we could get a root beer," he said.
"Sure."
