As I approached the room for the class I'd been nauseous about all weekend, I felt my cheeks heat up way too much. This partner project was making me sick and I hadn't even started it yet. I hadn't even mentioned it to Calvin or my sister.
What was the point of it if it would only cause them to worry for me? Or jealousy on Calvin's behalf?
"Do my hair extensions look natural? I don't know why I wore a ponytail today!! Oh my gosh!" I began to spiral, just seeing the room across the hall.
How was this fair? How was I supposed to deal with my unnatural instinctive reactions to having Brandon around?
"Your hair looks fine, Em," Sarah stared at me, looking as if she were trying to read my face. "Anyway, why are you being so weird?"
"Nothing! Maybe you're being weird!!" I deflected instinctively.
I wanted to tell her the drama, but I worried it would make her think I was worried I would do something with Brandon and that the old crush candle was lit again. I did not have a crush on my ex-boyfriend.
I didn't.
So I didn't think it made sense to draw this to Sarah's attention so she could make unnecessary and wrong conclusions about something that did not matter in the slightest.
I could definitely hide his awkward situation.
"I really don't think I should go to this class today. What's the point? I might be sick or something. You know, I had a headache earlier and now my stomach hurts so yeah, I shouldn't! Can't infect the other students!" I stopped at the door, beginning to block it so I could turn back and forget about dealing with this today.
Sarah rolled her eyes, opened the door, and shoved me into the classroom before closing the door with a "Good luck!"
"Sarah!" I yelped as I stumbled into the classroom.
As I tripped forward and the door loudly slammed behind me, I found myself in the muscular arms of Brandon freaking Gardner again.
Memories of our kisses in this position flooded my mind, and my heart couldn't help but miss it in the slightest. The way his arm wrapped around my waist to pull me in and then lightly touch the back of my neck to pull me in...
