April

My hand shook as I raised it to knock on the door in front of me, cursing under my breath.

Two weeks earlier.

Louis and I had been engaged for about a week and a half now and I don't know about him, but I was happier than ever.

One day we were just laying in bed quietly, Louis' head on my stomach while I played with his hair and he with my hands.

"Babe?" The comfortable silence was interrupted as Louis began talking.

"Hm?" I hummed, continuing the constant movement of my hand through his hair.

"I was thinking..."

"That's never good." I grinned.

"Oh shut up will you. Anyways, we've been engaged for almost two weeks and, well your mum and dad don't know yet."

I tensed at the mention of the two people with whom I hadn't spoken to since my 21st birthday.

Sensing my quietness, Louis sat up. "Babe, come on don't you think they should know? They're you're parents."

"Louis they stopped being my parents the moment they stopped caring about what I wanted. Now I'm happier than ever. With you. You're my family now, love." I kissed the corner of his lips and nuzzled my head in his shoulder.

"Apriiiiil." He whined, softly lifting my head off of his shoulder. "Look honey, I just want you to have a close relationship with your parents, you know so that when we have kids in the future they can have two grandmums and grandads." Louis said softly.

Okay that kind of did me in. Seeing Louis talk about our future with that little glint in his eyes, it melted my insides. "Fine. But only because I love you." I kissed the side of his jaw, "Oh and you're paying for the flight." I joked.

And that's how I found myself in the small town near Doncaster where my parents lived, ready to enter their house.

"APRIL!" My mother yelled as she opened the door, engulfing me in a hug as if our last conversation had never happened and I had never stood up to her.

After releasing me, she went over to Louis hugging him tightly as well.  For a moment, he looked at me with a puzzled expression, unsure of what to do, before wrapping his arms around my mum's torso.

"Nice to see you again Mrs. Tomlinson." Louis said politely after being released.

"Oh please, call me Miranda. April love come in, you've got to see everybody!" I pondered who 'everybody' was, before following her inside. Apparently, she had invited a few of my old friends from high school as well as old family friends, most of whom were, frankly, people that I had hoped never to see again.

Faking a smile, I went around saying hello to people, introducing Louis as my boyfriend wherever I went.Just when I thought I had finished all of the awkward conversations, my mother walked up to me with someone I absolutely despised, behind her.

My eyes widened at the sight of the boy whom I hadn't seen in over five years, and I gripped Louis' hand tighter. Sensing my discomfort, Louis opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by my mum.

"April, dear, look who I found! You remember Ashton right?" Did I remember Ashton? Did I remember how he was the first boy I ever loved and who ever loved me? Did I remember how I walked in on him banging my best friend on the day of my birthday? Yeah, I remembered.
