The white-haired man started toward her with slow, relaxed steps, "What's your name?" he asked.
She opened her eyes, but her vision of the blue sky had started to blur, fuzzing over with stars as the feeling started to leave her body, starting at the fingertips. She couldn't breathe. She was being crushed on all sides, and she couldn't breathe. But she wanted to answer the man who'd come to try to help her. He was probably about to die for it, so he at least deserved to know the first name of the girl who'd selfishly wished him here.
"I..ku..."
Crack. She tried to gasp but couldn't. The pressure had increased enough to break one of her ribs, crushing any attempt to answer the man's question. Her vision started to go black.
My name is Nishimura Ikuko...
My name is Nishim... Iku...
My name is...
...Nishimura Ikuko, and she turned twenty-two years old the day she almost died for the first time.
