I jerked awake to a scream and checked the clock.

3:12 AM.

I heard heavy footsteps outside my door and someone trying to open my locked door.

A guy's voice called out to me. "I know you're there. There's no point in hiding. I killed your friend and I'll kill you next."

I quietly crept to my window and opened it.

His footsteps faded away as I ran to the front of our house.

My head blanked and suddenly it was morning.

I stood there shaking and hyperventilating and pacing in our driveway.

The neighbours across the street started coming my way.

"Oh, dear, are you alright?" the woman asked me.

I tried to calm my breathing and instead burst into tears. "Y-Yeah."

Her husband grinned evilly and pulled two bloody knives out of his pocket.

I stared in horror.

"Remind you of someone?" he taunted me.

I ran into my house and locked all the doors.

I watched the clock tick closer to 3 AM.

Suddenly a man ran into my room and pinned me against the wall.

He sliced my left wrist open with a knife as I cried out for someone to save me.

He threw me onto the floor and laughed at me. "No one's here to save you."

Wake up, my mind urged my body.

I tried crawling away but he pulled me back and roughly kicked me.

"Why are you doing this to me? I don't even know you."

He roughly pulled me up to see his face. "You don't know me?"

I froze in fear as I recognised who he was. "But I never— You didn't—"

His hand collided with the side of my face. "I'm coming for her next. Enjoy your final moments with her!"

He left the room as quickly as he came while I lay on the floor with blood pouring out of my wrist, a bruise on my side, and his handprint on my face.

I closed my eyes for a minute and opened them to see that I was sitting in the backseat of a car.

She was sitting in the front seat of the car.

She turned and flashed me that beautiful smile I love. "Hey."

"Do you trust me?" I blurted out as I glanced behind us and saw him coming towards us.

"Yes," she replied.

"Then—"

Suddenly two knives shattered my window and came hurtling down towards me.

I frantically grasped his arms to stop him from stabbing me. "Just drive," I told her.

She obeyed but somehow the guy managed to keep up with our car and lightly traced a knife across my left wrist.

I stared at the bloody mark left behind.

I was shaking and crying and begging him to just go away.

Finally I realised what he wanted. "You want me to do it."

He stared into my eyes. "Yes."

My voice shook as I said, "I'll do it. Not all of it. Not right now. But give me the knives."

Wake up, my mind tried to force my body awake to escape.

He handed me one of the knives and grinned in satisfaction. "Perform well and I'll give you more time."

I asked her to pull over and she did.

"I'm sorry," I whispered to her.

"For wha—"

She cut off with a scream as he broke the passenger window and crawled inside.

He roughly grasped her right arm and left a shallow mark on it with his knife.

I watched the blood slowly trickle out and the tears of pain fill her eyes.

"Match that," he told me.

I shakily climbed into the front seat with her and tried to read her facial expression. "I—I'm sorry. Please don't hate me."

It's just a dream.

She lowered her eyes to avoid my gaze and wordlessly offered me her arm.

My hand shook as I slowly matched the cut he gave her.

When I finished, he grinned. "Well done! Five minutes is all I'll give you."

He vanished.

I shifted slightly on her lap, trying to get her to look at me. "Please say something."

My voice broke.

This isn't real.

Her eyes met mine and the worst part was that I couldn't read her expression.

I didn't bother wiping away the tears that flowed down my face. "Can. . . I kiss you? I won't be able to after. . ."

I trailed off and cautiously reached out to take her hand in mine.

It was warm and fit so well with mine.

How is this a dream?

"I don't want to lose you—"

She pulled me forward and our lips met.

She wrapped her arms around me and I rested my head on her chest, focusing on her heartbeat.

Why can't you wake up and stop this?

"I'm sorry I couldn't save you."

Suddenly, everything went spinning.

I felt her hand start to slip out of mine.

If you don't wake up, stupid self, it's going to hurt when you lose her in this dream.

And then she was gone.

And I was falling.

From the highest part of the sky.

There were others falling with me.

I frantically looked around to see if I could find her.

She wasn't there.

I hit the ground and then. . .

I was falling again. . .

And again. . .

Wake up!

I was stuck in a never ending loop of falling, knowing that I tried to save her, and being without her.

Until. . .

I hit the ground again and instead of falling again, I stayed there on the ground.

I looked up and she was standing in front of me.

She allowed me a minute to stare at her.

I hated how I couldn't read her facial expression.

She didn't say anything and turned and walked away from me.

"Wait! Don't. . . leave me," I whispered as she disappeared.

AN: This was so vivid and the worst part was that I knew it was a dream and couldn't wake up from it. Definitely my new worst nightmare and why I should remember to not drink caffeine before bed.
