CHAPTER 6

The 3 boys teleport outside of the studio as the song finishes. They were all in shock at the fact that Julie could sing and the amount of chemistry between Julie and Mei. A crying girl in a black hat walked past them snapping them out of their thoughts.

Inside the studio, Mei and Julie continue to stare at each other. Unconsciously, Julie's eyes drift down towards Mei's lips. Mei couldn't think clearly, her brain was fogged with thoughts yet in the middle of it all was Julie. The door opening breaks them from their staring and they both take a step back from each other.

An African American girl walks into the studio crying and immediately walks towards Julie. Mei gives Julie a smile and slowly walks backwards and out of the studio. The vibrant colors of the world blind her vision as her eyes adjust to the sun. When her eyes focus she sees the boys looking through the window listening to the girls' conversation. Mei sneaks up behind the boys.

"Boo" she whispers in their ears. A high pitch scream emits from one of the boy's mouth. All 3 boys stand up and look at Mei. Alex and Reggie immediately point their fingers at Luke. Mei laughs at the boys and wraps her arms around their shoulders. "So what's the plan for today?"she asks. 

"We were about to listen to Julie and that girl's conversation before you scared us" says Alex. 

"Dude!" says Luke slapping Alex's arm. The band goes back to the window and listen to the conversation taking place inside the studio. They could only hear Julie's voice. 

"I just played the piano and sang again." 

"I was trying, then your seven sodas kicked in." 

"Right? It's like I drank seven sodas."

"What made you want to play again?" asks an unfamiliar voice. The band assumed it came from the crying girl. 

"I found this song my mom wrote me" 

At this sentence all of the ghosts press their faces a little harder to the glass so they could hear her answer. 

"I was so afraid to play it. Anything involving music reminds me of her. And then I woke up this morning, realizing that is why I should play it. To keep her memory alive" Julie finishes. The two girls hug each other when the girl in the hat pulls away suddenly. 

"We need to tell Mrs.Harrison you can play so you can stay in school and my life won't be that sad picture I just painted for you. My girl is back. Double Trouble lives again!" says the girl as the two of them grab their backpacks and walk outside. The four band members "act casual". 

"Oh hey!" says Julie out loud to the band with a smile as her friend continues to walk forwards. The band smile at Julie sheepishly. The girl in the hat turns around and sees Mei standing next to Julie. 

"Julie? Who is this?" she says pointing at Mei. The boys and Julie look at Mei and back to the girl forgetting that Mei is visible to lifers. Unknowingly, Julie's hand creeps closer to Mei's and their hands interlock. Mei squeezing her hand slightly to calm the girl down. 

"The name's Mei. I came to say goodbye to princess over here before I head to school," Of course Mei wasn't actually going to school.

"Well my name is Flynn and any friend of Julie's is a friend of mine." Flynn and Mei give neutral smiles to one another. 

"I'll catch you later princess" says Mei sending Julie a wink and lets go of her hand. Mei walks out the gate and back around the house. The hand that Julie was holding seems colder now, it feels lighter then the other one. Like, a helium filled balloon floating into the atmosphere and Julie was the weight holding it down. 

When Mei gets back from walking around the house she notices the Julie and Flynn were no longer there. Luke, Reggie, Alex and Mei all walk into the studio. Reggie was the first to speak up. 

"I wonder why Julie didn't tell us she could shred on the piano" 

"And sing. That girl can sing. You heard how good Mei and Julie were" replies Luke leaning on the piano. 

"It probably has something to do with her mom. You know? Must have been hard" says Alex climbing up the ladder to the upper platform. 

"I really feel for her." Mei says twisting the ring on her finger. Her life was turned upside down when her father died. Just like Julie, she stopped playing music for a while after his death until she met the guys. When her mom practically disowned her and kicked her out, music and her friends were the only things keeping her steady. 

"Now she has music back in her life, just like us." says Luke ignoring Mei. 

"Yeah, I'm not sure you can call what we have a life." says Alex. Reggie and Mei shrug their shoulders in agreement. The door opens up and Ray walks into the studio with a camera. Mei quickly teleports onto the upper platform with Alex and ducks down hoping she doesn't get seen. Ray unknowingly walks through Reggie. 

"Woah that was weird! But somehow I can tell this man has a kind heart." says Reggie. Mei giggles silently as Alex sits beside her shaking his head in amusement. 

"So how ya been?" says Ray speaking aloud. 

"Honestly, not that good. See, we ate these hot dogs, and-" Reggie started to reply but he was cut off. 

"Julie sang for the first time this morning. She hadn't done that in almost a year. You would have loved it. This girl from next door got up this morning and sang with her. They sounded beautiful." 

"Yeah we know cause we were-ohh! Oh I get it. He's not talking to us." Reggie realizes as Ray walks around and take pictures of the studio. 

"You are so lucky you can play bass." says Luke. 

"And that Mei helped him pass his classes. I'm pretty sure he's talking to Julie's mom." says Alex. 

"Julie is such an amazing young woman. Every day she reminds me more and more of you." 

"Called it" says Alex, he pouts when Mei hits his leg. 

"Oh, I'm uh taking pictures for the real estate website. I don't really want to move but, I guess it is best for Julie." 

"Move?" Mei whispers watching Ray as he sits on the bench at the piano. 

"There are so many memories" Ray continues. "of Julie playing next to you, and Carlos trying to sing with his missing two front teeth." Ray chokes up a laugh as he holds back tears. Luke covers his mouth to hold back his sobs. 

"Oh no, Luke, not you too." says Reggie as he also starts feeling sad. 

"He...He's talking about moving, but the poor guy, he doesn't wanna move" Luke starts to sniffle. Ray stands up to take more photos.

"It's like they grew up out here" Ray says gesturing to the studio.

"Oh man, now he has got me too" Reggie says as he starts to cry.

 Alex teleports down to the two boys. "Ok, how am I the emotional one?" 

"Can we go see my family and see how they are doing?" asks Reggie, his eyes red and puffy from crying. 

"Yeah" says Luke. 

"Yeah, listening to this feels...wrong" says Alex. With that, the four members of sunset curve teleport from the studio and to where Reggie's house used to be.
