Michael has his head on Luke's lap and the younger blonde is playing subconsciously with the green and black hair of Michael and both of them are on their phones.
I share a look with Ashton who is smiling happily because of the relationship between our two best friends. We've known since before they became a thing that they liked each other, and now they're a little more open with their relationship. I mean yeah, they still haven't specified that they're together, but Michael actually kissed Luke on the forehead about twenty minutes ago, and they're sitting in a pretty couple-y looking position. It's very cute and neither Ashton nor I could be any happier.
"Hey lover boys! We gonna have this sesh or not?" I call, referring to the fact that we are all in Ashton's lounge room for a banding cross song writing session.
Luke and Michael give me a surprised look before Michael sits up and looks at me expectantly.
"Go for it then. Begin." He says with a cheeky smile. I'm actually grateful to see that smile because it's been missing a little and I am glad that it still exists.
"Well, did anyone come up with an idea for a single?" I ask.
"Yeah, I did." Ashton says excitedly.
"Oh yeah? What is it?" Luke asks curiously.
"I was thinking about sleepless nights, you know? Liking someone and not wanting, or being able, to sleep because they just occupy so much of your mind." He says.
"Isn't that a little unoriginal?" Michael asks delicately and I know that he's trying not to completely diss Ashton's idea because he is quite sensitive and gets hurt if his ideas get immediately thrown away.
"Well, we'd have to make it original." Ashton huffs and I can tell he's already getting offended.
"Well, we can look into it, but we have to look at all our options." I quickly add to try and not let the situation completely blow up with Ashton yelling or sulking.
I turn to Luke and Michael to see if they have any input and see Michael writing in a blue notebook I've never seen before. Luke is trying to read over his shoulder, but Michael is doing a good job at hiding it.
"Hey dick heads? What were your ideas?" I call to them and they look up in unison, looking like rabbits caught in headlights.
"Well, what was your idea?" Luke says back to me and I grin.
"I don't have one." I admit, never letting the grin slip. It's true that I don't have an idea. I couldn't come up with a single idea or a single line for lyrics. It is incredibly frustrating, but I drew a complete blank and there was nothing I could do to change that.
"Oh. Okay. Well, no big deal." Michael says with a casual shrug of his shoulders and I can almost believe that him being nonchalant is sincere if it wasn't the small smile in the corner of his lips. I'm pretty sure that he feels a little more confident in his idea now that we've heard Ashton's slightly unoriginal idea, and my non-idea.
"My idea was sort of like a, maybe a forbidden love. You know? And needing constant reassurance that they love you back, and you're not meant to love them, but you do anyway. And it completely blows my- I mean your- mind when they do admit they love you. I dunno. Something like that." Luke explains and his face flushed red at his slip up. It's obvious that that's how he feels about Michael and I see Michael ever so subtly take Luke's hand and squeeze it gently before going back to his notebook.
They seriously need to tell us soon.
Michael is sticking his tongue out a little bit as he concentrates on whatever he is scribbling in his notebook and curiosity gets the better of me so as soon as he is preoccupied giving Luke feedback on his song idea, I lean over and snatch the book from his hand.
