Chapter 44

"Why don't you fill out a missing persons report and sit tight over here." -Deputy Kathleen

Episode 15

Dean's POV

The deputy Kathleen looks at my fake I.D. "So, what can we do for you. Officer Washington?" Kathleen says. "I'm working a missing persons." I say. "I didn't know the Jenkins case was being covered by the State Police." She says.

"Oh, no. No, there's someone else. Actually, it's my cousin. We were havin' a few last night at this bar down by the highway. And I haven't seen her since." I say. "Does your cousin have a drinking problem?" She asks. "Skye? A bit but it's not that bad." I say.

Kathleen smiles. "No, she was taken." I say. She nods and sits down at her computer. I follow her and sit also. "Alright. What's her name?" She asks. "Lacey. Skye Lacey." I say.

Kathleen nods and sits down at her computer and she brings up her police record. She observes the page then clicks on her parents link and she brings up their record.

"Skylar Lacey. So, you know that her father Joseph Lacey and mother died in Ohio. And, uh, her father was in jail twice for auto theft and jacked credit cards." She says.

I try to look nonchalant. "Yeah, Joe. Kind of shady fellow but a great guy though." I say. "Uh-huh." She says as she types something else and brings up more search results on the computer.

"Well, she's not showing up in any current field reports." She says. "Oh, I already have a lead. I saw a surveillance camera by the highway." I say. "Uh-Huh. The county traffic cam?" She asks.

"Right. Yeah. I'm thinking the camera picked up whatever took her. Or, whoever." I say. "Well, I have access to the traffic cam footage down at the county works department, but-well, anyhow let's do this right away." She says.

She stands up and gets some paperwork from the filing cabinet. "Why don't you fill out a missing persons report and sit tight over here." She says as she hands me a clipboard.

"Officer, look, uh, she's family. I kind of-I kind of-I kind of look out for her. You gotta let me go with you." I say. "I'm sorry. I can't do that." She says. "Well, tell me something. Your county has it's fair share of missing persons. Any of them come back?" I ask.

She looks at me sad. Just what I was afraid of...What if I can't find Skye? No don't think like that Dean.

"Skye's my responsibility. And she's coming back. I'm bringing her back." I say. She stares at me.
