Chapter 45

"I'll be damned. They're just people." -Skye Lacey

Episode 15

3rd POV

Skye is asleep in a cage. She jerks awake and observes her surroundings. She rattles the bars of the cage. She looks around and notices Jenkins asleep in a cage next to hers.

Dean's POV

Me and Sam are sitting on a bench outside. "Greg. Sam." We hear from behind us. It's Kathleen. We get up and face her. "I think we've got something." She says as she hands us the printouts and we look through them.

"These traffic cams take an image every three seconds as part of the Amber Alert program. These images were all taken around the time that your cousin, Skye disappeared." She says.

"This really isn't what we are looking for." I say. "Just wait, wait, next one." She says. I turn the page and see a image of a rusty truck driving. "This one was taken right after Skye left the bar. Look at the back end of that thing. Now, look at the plates." She says.

I turn another page and see a close up image of the truck's license plates. "Oh, the plates look new. It's probably stolen." Sam says. "So, whoever's driving that rust bucket must be involved." She says.

A beat up van drives by. It's engine is whining loudly. "Hear that engine?" I ask. "Yeah." She says. "Kind of a whining growl, isn't it?" Sam asks. "Sure." She says. Me and Sam stare at the van as it drives away.

"I'll be damned." Me and Sam both say.

Skye's POV

I try to kick down the door of my cage, but I fail again. Jenkins groans and wakes up. I rush over to talk to him through the bars of our cages. "You're alive." I say. Jenkins groans again. "Hey, you okay?" I ask.

"Does it look like I'm doing okay?" He asks. "Where are we?" I ask. "I don't know. The country. I think. Smells like the country." He says. "You're Alvin Jenkins, aren't you?" I ask.

"Yeah." He says. I sigh. "I was looking for you." I say. "Oh, yeah?" He asks. "Yeah." I say. "Well, no, offense, but this is a piss poor rescue." He says. "Well, my friends are out there right now, too. They are looking for us. So-" He cuts me off.

"So, they're not gonna find us. We're in the middle of nowhere." He says as he nods towards the door leading into the building. "Waiting for them to come back and do God knows what to us." He says.

"What are they? Have you seen them?" I ask. "What are you talking about?" He asks. "Whatever's got us, what'd they look like?" I ask. "See for yourself." He says. The door to the building opens and two men wearing black coats and hats walk in. One man walks over to Jenkins cage and kicks the side of it.

Jenkins moves back into the corner. The other man goes to a panel of buttons attached to a pole in the middle of the room. He inserts a key into the panel and twists it. Jenkins cage unlocks and the men enter.

"Leave me alone! Don't you take me, leave me alone!" He yells. The men place a plate of food in front of him. They leave the cage and walk away to the panel. One of the men twists the key again and removes it. Which locks the cage. They leave, and Jenkins devours his food.

"I'll be damned. They're just people." I say to myself. "Yeah. What'd you expect?" Jenkins asks. "How often do they feed you?" I ask. "Once a day. And they use that thing over there to open the cage." He says as he points to the panel.

"And that's the only time you see 'em?" I ask. "So far. But I'm waiting." He says. "Waiting for what?" I ask. "Ned Beatty time, lady." He says. "I think that's the least of your worries right now." I say.

"Oh yeah?" He asks. "Yeah." I say. "What do you think they want, then?" He asks. I reach through the top of my cage and grab a long metal wire stretching from the top of the pole to the ground.

I try to pull it down. "Depends on who they are." I say. "They're a bunch of psycho hillbilly rednecks if you ask me. Lookin for love in all the wrong places." He says.

I continue to pull on the wire which gradually starts to detach from the pole. Come on, come on.
