"But that's boring."

Robbie complains for the hundredth time as we sit down and watch the trailers of one the many romantic films that mum owns and keeps.

"Listen here, you can learn a lot from these types of films. I'm expecting when you get older, a lot older. There will be girls that are going to want you talk to them but remember there's only one special person who can stay in there."

Looking to the side of me as she taps one of her fingers on his chest where his heart is.

"You have to treat her right and make her feel special. Once you find that someone for you, you can't ever let them go."

Her eyes meeting mine briefly before she steals the popcorn back from Robbie, his face completely confused to the advice mum just gave him.

"In other words Robbie don't be a player."

I chime in as mum narrows and rolls her eyes at me.

"What's a player?"

I point a finger at mum who all but laughers and then pretends to be hurt.

"I am not a player, how very dare you."

Mum had dated a few men after dad had bailed. They weren't always bad but they were rather annoying, trying to always win brownie points with us as they would buy us toys or offer to take us to places. It was always awkward when they had kids from other past relationships, one had had a son who was the same age than me. He was nice at first, remembering Simon. He was a nerd like me, both of us into the same things apart from when he tried to make me play chess the one time. Never again, not because it was boring it's just every time we played he would always complain about losing. One afternoon mum had asked our next door neighbour to pop in every so often and check on us, good old Miss Dorothy. She would always bring her dog over with her which was always nice, till mum got fed up with us begging her for a dog every year. But that particle day where me and Simon were studying for exams and finishing homework in living room was one I would never forget. He had asked me for help on an math equation he was struggling on, Robbie who always played in his room when ever we had guests not wanting to interact with them which was a godsend because in the few seconds I move over to help him with the question he kisses me. Not just a quick peck on the lips kiss, but a deep slobbery one. I pushed him so hard away from me when I felt his tongue try to get in between my lips, hell no. It was disgusting, I excused myself quickly telling him that I had to grab something from my room. By the time I had got to my room and texted Mike what had just happened there was a knock on the front door. Opening the door, Mike pushed through so fast and squared Simon up that he ran out of the house screaming. Not that Mike was very muscular, he wasn't that much taller than me. But I would never forget how Mike had come all the way from his house to come and rescue me. He really was my knight in shining armour, I just wish there could be more between us.

"She's doing it again."

I hear Robbie say as I now watch his hand wave right in front of me. Now realizing I must have zoned out thinking about old memories.
