Five times, that is how many times I had changed my outfit after I had finished have a nice warm shower, washing my body and hair as I keep looking at the time counting the hours I have left till my first lesson starts. It was six in the morning and I was already feeling nervous. Settling for my usual pair of dark blue jeans and light-colored top and cardigan, checking myself out in the mirror deciding whether tie my hair up leave it down. Reaching a decision, I begin to plait my hair to the side and leave a few loose strands at the front. Hoping other girls wouldn't judge me for my appearance, like they had done at my last school. I knew the names they called me. I wasn't deaf. Virgin Mary. Nerd. Four eyes. Anorexic bitch. Mike always said that other girls were jealous of my slight curvy body and slim figure, which was surprising for how much food I ate as I should actually be obese right now. I always planted a fake face on at school pretending the comments didn't get to me at all, but they did. There were some nights where I had cried myself to asleep not wanting to wake up ever again because that would mean I would have to deal with the comments, the stares.

"Katie!"

Mum shouts from downstairs. The smell of bacon coming through under my door. Grabbing my light grey and mixed coloured butterfly backpack, I quickly spray another layer of deodorant and spray of perfume before walking downstairs where I see mum rushing around with a hot pan in hand. Mum hardly did any cooking whilst at our other home though she always wanted to but making sure we were ready for school and then having to go to work at early hours she just never had enough time.

"I think your burning it mummy."

Robbie laughs as he twirls around in circles on one of the bar stools.

"No Robbie this is calling caramelizing."

Pretending to roll her eyes at him as she places the hot pan back down on the unlit stove.

"I don't know. It's pretty hard."

His mouth trying to bite through some bacon she had cooked but only managing to eat a little mouthful of it. His face changing as he stretches his tongue out in disgust reaching over the island for his glass of orange juice.

"Well, practice makes perfect they say. Next month you'll be seeing me on masterchef. I'll be rocking them chef whites."

She hoots, opening a couple of cupboards up until she finds what she's looking for. Pulling a box of rice crispies out she pours the little puffs into three bowls.

"Katie mum burnt the bacon."

Feeling his warm hands pull me into the kitchen until I'm stood in front of the stool next to the one he was sat down in. Dressed in a batman onesie.

"Snitch."

Mum jokes as she sticks her tongue at him which he copies.

"It's alright I wasn't very hungry anyway."
