The sound of beeping rings in my ears as I struggle to open my eyes. Where was I? My entire body aching as my chest and throat burn. The motion of throwing up becoming even stronger.

"She's awake!"

I hear someone shout out near me. The voice familiar but not being able to work out who it is.

"Katie!"

The voice screams louder and louder. I feel small fingers wrap around my arms but suddenly applying more pressure.

"Robbie please, you need to let her come around on her own. You can't keep trying to wake her up she's been drifting in and out for a couple of days now. We talked about this. She needs rest."

Robbie? He was here?

"Let go of me! Katie! Katie"

He screams the same time my left arm gets lifted and pulled on. Please let go of him, fearing someone was hurting him.

"Katie!"

"We need help in room 32."

Someone else shouts from further away.

Where were they taking him? Where was mum? Everything becoming too much for me to take in as my vision slowly comes back and now staring up at a white plain ceiling, the light from in the room irritating my eyes as well as the smell of strong bleached chemicals.

"Get off him."

A deep voice bellows. The whole room goes completely silent, footsteps move around me.

"William. I saw her eyelids blink."

"Who are you? You are not allowed to be in here. Family only, I'm going to have to ask you to leave-."

"She's my fiancé. So do yourself a favour, let go of the boy and fuck off to find a doctor."

Fiancé? Doctor? I try to speak but I struggle with the words. Each time bringing more pain when I swallow. Warm fingers skim over my cheeks as I stare up at Williams face who now hovers over mine.

"Don't talk. You're in hospital."

His skin being a lot paler than I've ever seen before, sweat drips down his forehead. His hair drench. He looked terrible. He hunches slightly over as if he was in pain, his face wincing.

"There was a fire. I'm so sorry Katie. This is all my fault, I should have left you alone. But the selfish part of me couldn't."

Fire? Parts of images begin to flash through my mind, my family's home burning, the smoke choking me as a shadow leans over me. Mum's lifeless body lies on the tiled floor of the kitchen, her eyes staring at me as blood drips down her forehead.
