"What is this?"
Looking down at a golden bullet that rests in the palm of his hand.
"It's a bullet-"
"I know what it is. Where did it come from?"
Not finding this funny anymore especially when I am looking at something with the potential to kill all of us.
"Relax."
He tells me.
"How can I relax when your holding a bullet in your fucking hand and you look like shit. Was someone trying to shoot you?"
My body now feeling as cold as his was only moments ago. When he doesn't answer, I push away from his body now grabbing my phone from my desk.
"What are you doing?"
His voice now curious. Was he stupid? Tapping the numbers for the police but before I can press the call button William takes it from me. His body stumbling back towards the bed as he slumps down on top of it on his stomach.
"This isn't a Joke anymore William. You got shot at. Someone was shooting at you."
He rolls over on to his back, hiding my phone underneath him.
"I'm not taking this as a joke Katie. I don't know who this shooter is. I didn't see their face and if we get the police involved who knows if they'll try something. Just let me handle this."
"Like you've handled everything else. Look what happened to Elizabeth."
The words coming out before I can take them back, covering my mouth with my hands.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean that. It wasn't your fault."
"No. Your right. The only reason why she was outside was because of me. She had gotten too close, and I pushed her away. She was only a kid, I wasn't there for her and she ended up paying with her own life. But I won't let that happen to you or your family. This person is Killing for a reason. And I think it's me."
I move closer to the bed, a slither of skin now visible from where his shirt had risen.
"Did they shoot you?"
Knowing nothing could hurt him. He nods his head, leaning his upper body forward he leans back on his hands.
"Where?"
His dark eyes watching mine closely before they move down to his shirt.
"Did it hurt?"
Grazing my fingers along the bottom of his shirt. Swallowing hard I slowly pull it up, his skin smooth under my fingertips. His stomach flat and ripped with muscle, pulling the shirt far enough that I could see his pecs and the light dusting of hair on his chest.
"no."
His voice different than before. He shivers when I trail my fingers along his stomach but then grips my hand and pushes me away.
"Sorry I just- I couldn't see any bruises."
Getting lost in my own thoughts and not being able to control my actions.
"There won't be any. I'm not like you. I'm dead already. You cant kill something that's already dead."
Pulling his shirt back down but not moving.
"I won't call the police. Yet. If you can promise our safety. That no one will hurt my family."
"Katie! William!"
Robbie shouts as he barges into my room again but holding a bowl full of chopped up brownies, ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. He shoves one of the bowls at William before shoveling a big spoonful into his mouth. Figures he would get the bowl over me. Mum comes following up the stairs now handing me mine, her smile getting bigger when Robbie makes a moustache on his face with the whipped cream. He looks to William who copies him, both of their voices turning posh as they excuse each other.
I go to sit back down in the chair when a hand grabs mine. Looking back William holds my phone out for me to take in his other hand. His face holding no emotion when he looks at me,
"I promise. I know I could have stopped a lot of bad stuff from happening in the past, but I can't change that. I want to right my wrongs. I want to fix this."
