"All right, let's get started." Kakashi stood in front of Naruto and I on a training field. Apparently, with the oncoming threat of the Akatsuki and the fact that Naruto and I had powerful and dangerous spirits inside of us, we were being put through yet another kind of training separate from the others.
I honestly thought it had more to do with Naruto going berserk on his last mission. The boy had gone all the way up to four tails while fighting Orochimaru.
"What?" Kakashi questioned when Naruto chuckled.
"It's just, it's like you haven't trained me in so long.... I dunno why, but this makes me happy!"
"I see. Well, if you want to laugh, now's your only chance."
"Huh?"
"Because we're really short on time. Like I said at the hospital, the aim of our training is for you to create your own ultimate ninjutsu. One that even surpasses Rasengan. Chakra nature and shape manipulation are essential to this process." Kakashi raised two fingers.
"Shape and nature manipulation?" Naruto looked a bit confused.
"Like how Kakashi-sensei made mist, and Temari makes wind."
"I....don't actually know how they do that."
"I'll explain, just one at a time, or you'll get confused." Naruto laughed while rubbing his head. "We'll start with shape manipulation.
"Yes, sir!"
"Do a Rasengan."
"Coming right up!" Naruto brought out a clone to make it the way he'd learned from the cat, and I did mine the way I'd learned from the river. "Rasengan!"
"Okay, stop." Kakashi raised his hand before Naruto slammed his Rasengan into the ground. "You've already mastered chakra shape manipulation."
"Huh?"
"That's what your Rasengan is."
"It is?"
"You rotate your raw chakra wildly at extreme speeds and compress the energy. That is shape manipulation itself, which you could say Rasengan takes to the ultimate level."
"So I've passed shape manipulation, then?" Naruto grinned.
"That's right."
"All right!"
"Okay, the next step is chakra nature manipulation. Let's see....let's take Chidori. This technique uses both shape and nature manipulation at the same time. Watch carefully." Kakashi produced the sparking electricity from his hands after doing a few signs. He formed it slowly to show the chakra first, then how it turned into electricity.
"That's nature manipulation?"
"That's right. Next, I change its shape to that of a power surge, which determines the power and range. To create a technique more advanced than your usual Rasengan, you need to use both shape and nature manipulation at the same time like I do with Chidori."
"So if I use that nature-thingy on Rasengan, I'll have a new technique in no time!"
"Naruto, you probably don't even know what your elemental affinity is." I popped off.
"Element-what?"
"I would ask if you ever read, but I already know the answer is 'no'."
"Oi!" Naruto pouted, and Kakashi sighed.
"There are only five basic types of chakra elemental natures. They are fire, wind, water, lightning, and earth. The Five Great Shinobi Nations are named for these elements, and they make up the foundation of ninjutsu."
