Post-apocalyptic explosions (Reader x Megumin story)

Chapter 6- An ear on the road

I woke up to what seemed like a wonderful morning. Wonderful in every other aspect except for what my stomach felt. I was hungry.

I got off the couch I slept on and I looked at Megumin, who was still asleep on the other couch. As always, peace dominated her sleep.

Oh, it would be a damn shame if someone were to suddenly wake her up!

Of course, I had malicious intentions and wanted to wake her up by brutally shaking her. As I rushed towards her, I forgot one important thing. The fact that I did not wear boots and not only that, but I had just stubbed my little toe in one of the couch's legs.

Terrible, crushing pain climbed up my leg as I let out a terrible scream of pain.

"AAAAAAAAAH!"

Megumin opened her eyes.

"What happened? Are you hurt?" she asked me

"I hit my toe in that thing!" I angrily said. "Exorcised my ass! This place is accursed. You know what? We're leaving right now and I'll allow you to cast Explosion on this mansion!"

Megumin's eyes lit up and her lips formed a smile that decorated her beautiful face. The cute arch-wizard quickly stood up.

I bet she is glad she gets to blow stuff this early in the morning.

As I put on my boots, rifle and backpack, Megumin put on her hat and took her staff and followed me outside the mansion. When we were at a safe distance from it, I gave her the signal and she started chanting. A huge beam came out of Megumin's staff and soon enough the mansion was crushed by her Explosion magic. 

"The best!" Megumin whispered before falling on her knees and then on her face

Seeing the mansion where I stubbed my toe get obliterated filled me with renewed energy and happiness, so I took Megumin in my arms without hesitation.

"Did I do well, Y/n?" Megumin asked me, letting out a yawn

"Yes, you did, now we're good to go."

Megumin moved her hat over her face and seemed to have fallen asleep again. As I kept going on our journey with her in my arms, I looked at her for a moment and then turned my gaze back forward.

Maybe I shouldn't abandon her when we reach the settlement. Maybe I can defend her. Seeing every place I hate, enemies or monsters get obliterated by Explosion magic... it all sounds attractive.

While she was carried by me, sleeping Megumin was cuddling her staff.

But then again, I would really hate for Megumin to go away and leave me to my isolation from anything resembling civilization. If that exists anymore.

After about half a hour my arms got tired. Although she was light even for her young age, I also carried stuff o my back. I rested her back against a tree and took a breather. I got really sweaty after all that effort.

Damn it, I am going to stink now!

But after several minutes, Megumin woke up from her nap and smiled.

"You fell asleep." I said. "Thinking about it, this arm pain I am feeling right now was not worth it just to see that mansion explode."

Megumin quickly stood up and waved her staff aggressively.

"Don't talk nonsense! Any pain in the world is worth suffering just to witness my Explosion!" the eye that wasn't covered by her eyepatch was glowing as she said that.

So chuunibyou. Her crazy devotion to Explosion magic... I somehow find that to be very cute.
