Present-day (Age: 18)

As my ears slowly pick up the sound of the water dripping to the ground. I groan and shift in my sleep, putting my head on something more comfortable.

"Watch it" Someone smacks my face bringing me to life. I gasp and sit up, wiping away the strands of hair in my mouth. I look and noticed that that comfortable spot was her stomach. Oops.., she rolls her eyes and shifts to another spot. I frown as the bright light from the small window hits my eyes. I turn away and look at the metal gates in front of me. "oh yea totally forgot that I'm still in jail" I say to myself.

For how long? I've been here for a good one week. I yawn and lick my dry lips. I lean my back against the hard wall and sigh. You must be wondering. Why am I in jail? Only bad people go to jail. Well, let's just say I had to steal some food and money. After leaving, that luxurious life I had, I have no money at all. I Could have searched for a job but no one wanted to take me because I was too young.

I was fully educated, thanks to my grandfather. He saved me that day. When I was told to run away, my grandfather found me hiding in the woods. If it wasn't for him, I would have been dead.

"You, stand up," The human armed with guns on his waist says and fiddles with his keys.

I look around but everyone looked at me with a dumb look and then I realized. "Oh! me?"

He opens the gate and I stand up almost falling. Not eating food for days makes me feel weak on my knees.

"Am I free now or something?" I ask as I turn around so that he can cuff my hands. He doesn't say anything and grabs my arm pulling me to walk forward. Rude enough. I honestly can just break out of these handcuffs but if I were to run again. They might find me again and put me in jail for another week or a month. That is even worse!

He holds my shoulder stopping me. He walks up to a man who looks like in his 30s. He doesn't seem human though. He signs a paper and passes it to the human. The human proceeds to uncuff me. I stand there feeling lost.

"Alright, you are free," The human says

"Wait what?" I look at him confused. I have one more week left, why is he letting me go now? Actually, I don't mind this at all. Yes, freedom!

" He will be taking care of you," He says and I look at the man in his 30s. He has light black colored hair and was dressed quite nicely. Like a rich man would.

"what? you are not going to just leave me with a man I don't know!" I squeak.

"You'll be fine," he says assuring me and starts to walk away.

"Wa- Wait!" I try to reach out to him but I hear the other man say something.

"Hi, my name is William" He smiles and I slowly back away. I can't believe they left me with a stranger! He notices my nervousness and clears his throat to continue. "I'm sorry, I'm sure this must be a shock to you. I can assure you I am no pedophile or some strange man"

"Don't all suspicious people say that they are not some strange man?" I straighten my back as I speak.

"No please I can assure you I'm not," He says panicking. I just kept silent. I have no idea who this man is and I don't want any part of this. He then continues, "How about we talk over some delicious food? Just down the road?"

My eyes lit up and I can hear my tummy rumbling. "Any food I want?"

"Yes, anything" He nods his head. I think about it and ramen fills my mind.

"I want to eat Ramen!" I exclaim

"Of course. Let's go" He says and I skip out of the place I have been living in for a week. Man.. I missed the sunshine.

"So you are saying.. that you know my father?" I Stop slurping the noodles in my mouth and stared at him.

"Well yes, I-"

I cut his sentence, "But he's dead" I say in a dead tone. I don't really like talking about my family and not with a stranger who apparently knows my father. How is that possible?

"You don't remember me?" He says a little sadder.

"No.. I don't think so?" I say, now questioning myself. "I don't know anyone other than my sister"

" Right... of course. You only saw a glimpse of me" He says and I continue to eat my bowl of noodles. He continues, "How about this, I know you don't believe me but what if I told you I know your sister's name."

I snorted. As if some stranger will know my sister. I only know her. Well, she only knows me."Go ahead" I say.

He takes a deep breath, " Darcy"

As soon as I heard that, I choked on the soup I was gulping.

"Are you okay?" He looks at me surprised and tries to give me the glass of water on the table but I push his hand away and take it myself. I drank the water soothing my throat.

"How-" *cough* "do you know my sister's name?"

"I took care of her in the castle a lot when before you were born," He says and takes a sip of water.

"Wait how old were you back then? and where did you see me?" I ask as curiosity fills my head.

"I was really young. Your father brought me in when I was 15" He says and my mind is filled with questions. He was so young!

"And.. where did you see me?" I ask looking into his eyes trying to find an answer.

He takes a deep breath, "I saw you as a baby but that was only once. The other time I saw you was when you were 6"

"When I was 6? But that's..." I pause, forcing my mind to go back to that time.

"That was exactly when the war started" He frowns. I gasp lightly, leaving silence and only the chattering of the people in the shop surrounding us.

"But where-"

He cuts me, " We'll talk more later. It's getting dark"

He stands up to pay at the counter. I quickly lick the bowl clean and ran to his side. "So where are we going?" I ask as we walk out of the shop.

"Home" He says

"oh! your home" I laugh and he looks at me with a weird expression. "I don't have a home, so.. hearing the word home is pretty weird"

"Well this will be your home form now on" He says

"Really?" My eyes start to shine. I never had a bed in years! "Wait" I pause. "You are not kidnapping me, right?"

He laughs, " Why would i do that after I treated you food? Sure, strange people do that to bribe you but I just told you I know your family."

He's right, maybe I can trust him. There is just something about this man that I can trust. I can feel it, the more we talk. "Okay I trust you"

"Good"
