For the twenty third and twenty fourth of December we spent it with his dad and even visited his grandparents. We decided to take our horses with us to both places and let them spend the holiday with us. I had got both Bent and Dusty Christmas themed travel and paddock blankets so they had something to stay warm.
His dad was impressed with Dusty. "Well I guess you can stop borrowing my horses now that you have your own." His dad said. "Yeah. I'm surprised she's the one that found him." Ranger said. "She may help you find more horses when yours retires." His dad said. "I know where to get my next horse when mine retires." I said. "Where did you find Dusty?" His dad asked. "At a ranch near Stevensville." I said.
"May go check out their stock." His dad said. Holidays will be awkward at first then we will get comfortable with it. That night in Ranger's old bedroom I was not in the mood to do anything more than talk. "What's on your mind baby? Your thinking." He said to me.
"Holidays are going to be complicated aren't they?" I asked as I laid facing the wall away from him. "We'll work it out. It may be thanksgiving and Christmas swap offs for the rest of our lives." He said as he threw an arm over me and pulled me to him.
"I don't know." I said. "Baby. I know it's going to be hard." He said. I rolled over to face him. "I already knew that." I said. He kissed my forehead. "We will figure it out baby. I promise it will work out." He said. "I want a Christmas at our own house and let the kids have one Christmas and not two." I said.
"I understand baby. We could always invite them over to our house for Christmas and thanksgiving. Or off set it every year." He said. "Once we start having kids, I don't want to travel with an infant." I said.
"Then the first few Christmases we can stay home and they will have more stuff than us." He said chuckling the last part. I smiled. "Then your dad or my parents can haul them here and leave them." I said. He chuckled. "What would you want?" I asked him. "For Christmas or baby?" He asked. "Baby." I answered. "I already got you your Christmas present."
He chuckled. "I know baby. I don't care what the gender of our first baby is. As long as he or she is healthy I do not care if it's an alien as long as you and I have it together." He said before kissing me. "So next Christmas, after you and I are married, and either there's a baby on the way or we already have a newborn at Christmas we will stay home to see what it's like." I said.
"What if we waited until after you are done with your schooling for RN?" He asked. "I wouldn't mind." I told him. He smiled. "I would rather wait." "I know baby. I kind of want to as well." He said. We both curled up together sleeping in a twin sized bed.
The twenty fourth we did gifts before he and I had to leave for my parents. I know they met him last Christmas but I was still nervous. It was like he was never there. My parents were the only ones that truly acknowledged him. I sat down next to him on a couch and cuddled up to him.
"My family is crazy." I told him. He looked down at me as I was looking up at him. "No joke." He said. "They think you are just a fling of mine." I said. "Not at all." He said before kissing me. I smiled as we parted. "We could hide out. I think the boys wouldn't mind a trail ride." I said. He kissed my forehead before pulling me to my feet.
We got our coats on and boots along with gloves before going out to the barn and saddling our horses. We went down the street looking at Christmas lights and enjoying each other's presence. This is what the family gets for not agreeing with me on my life choices.
We went back, had some dessert, got a hot shower together before curling up in my old bed with him. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
