Lisa's PoV:I and Jisoo arrived early at the Miller's bar, waiting for the others. As we enter, the lights are dim, the smell of cigarettes and alcohol envelops the whole place and the live band singing country songs makes me feel a little bit calmer, forgetting for a while about the news I had discovered. I missed so many events and I feel like I'm just a new person in this town.
Forgetting? Not really, but at least I got the chance to divert my attention.
Jisoo leads the way as I follow her from behind, some people gaze in our direction, some can recognize me with wide eyes and others are unfamiliar faces, probably wondering since I'm with the sheriff. We sit on the stools at the bar counter.
"Good evening sheriff." Says the bartender inside the counter, Jisoo nods at him while smiling. "Long time no see Lisa." The second time I heard his voice, I know I knew him, I struggle to recognize him, the place is a little bit darker so I narrow my eyes at the tall man. He is wearing a black long sleeve shirt and black pants, I look at his feature, has black hair that covers his forehead, firm jaw and his dark brown orb stares back at me.
"Oh shit. Jackson Wang?" Extremely astound as I realized the man behind the counter was the boy I met during my fucked up days. "You look great man. I barely recognize you." My voice is a bit loud because of the background music. I stand up to offer a handshake but he hurriedly walk out of the counter, confusion is written on me. But to my surprise, he gave me a big man hug, we pull back and laugh.
"Likewise Lisa." He grins back "How are you man?"
"All good." Then I grin back. I do feel good that I'm back and asked him the same question.
Soon after our small talk, a customer came up to order.
"Sorry Lisa, I need to go back. We'll catch up soon, okay?" I nod and he tap my shoulder. "Still on a duty man." He groan lowly and walk back inside the bar counter.
I sit back beside Jisoo "I can't believe I'm seeing him like this." I blurt out as I share my thoughts to her.
"Yeah, I need to arrest him for like a dozen times before with different criminal offenses. He was a pain in the ass. But look at him now, clean as fuck." She look at him like a proud parent.
Jackson heard us and chuckle. "Stop talking shit about me." He butts in. "So what's your drink?" He put his hands on his waist while he stares back and forth.
I look at Jisoo to let her decide.
"Two shots of tequila please." Jisoo says.
Jackson nods, he got shot glasses and holds it up side down, dipping in a tray filled with salt, pouring the drink and serve us with a slice of lemon. My mouth obliviously agape while watching him skillfully moving behind the counter.
"You can't believe what you see now?" Jisoo raise an eyebrow to me then I stare back at her "Limario you've been out for a decade, expect to see more changes in this town." she sigh and gulp down her shot. Jackson gave us another round.
After an hour of talking and drinking with Jisoo, my vision starts to spin, but I can still control myself. She's busy talking when suddenly her phone vibrated, she checked the message.
"They're here." She utter and turn around to look if they got inside. My body got tense. I have no idea how will they react when they see me.
"Over here!" Jisoo shouts and raise an arm. "They're getting nearer." She says through her grin. And stand to meet them half way. My hands still leaning over the counter. The voices gets louder as they come nearer to where I'm sitting.
