I walked home alone. I couldn't process what Wybie was talking about. Was he trying to scare me? Was he making a joke? Was this all part of some plan to make me move back to Portland? No, no it's probably just a stupid old prank. But then, what if it wasn't? I thought of every possible reason why Wybie would tell me such a thing. I knew Coraline wasn't involved because Wybie was scared of her finding out he told me.
I got home at 8:00 AM. It was still super early. My parents were sound asleep. I could maybe go exploring... Coraline had told me she had to pick up some new Mary Jane flats for school this morning, she told her mother she wanted dark red hiking boots, but her mom wouldn't buy them for her. Coraline showed me the flower and dragonfly patches she planned to glue to her Mary Janes yesterday. I didn't like being without her or my parents. I was bored and lonely. I decided to go walk to her flat.
*knock* *knock* *knock* I squinted my eyes and peered through the moist foggy window on her door. I pressed my hands against it and - *whoosh* the door swung open, they must have forgotten to lock it. Well, I better get going home ... But a part of me was curious, what could be so dangerous about a little part of a house? I couldn't let my curiosity get the better of me, I couldn't just barge into to someone's home, bu-u-u-t she did say I could come over anytime, this is probably NOT what she mean. I walked in anyway. This was a bad idea, I was BREAKING AND ENTERING. okay, all I want to do is find this door and see for myself if Wybie was lying.
I walked in through the front, past the hallway and the stairs leading up to Coraline's room, I walked up them, the floorboards creaking loudly as I rushed up. I turned left and down the hall, opening various doors only to find a bathroom or a room filled with only boxes. What could be so bad about that, boxes dangerous pfft. I opened the last door upstairs to find an old bedroom I assumed to be Coraline's (because of the dragonfly cut-outs hung over her bed, and the orange and green gloves lay lazily on her dresser. She wore them all the time). I looked around and found a picture frame of her friends in Michigan posing by a sign that said "CORALINE GOODBYE" I shouldn't be snooping, but I found a pink key and figured it went to the pink lock locking up Coraline's desk drawer. *click* I opened it. I found only a little purple notebook with a blue monarch butterfly on the front, it was 3-D popping out it had little gems and glitter glued to it. It was a diary...
