impossible girl

toph and i are chatting in front of our lockers, when we realize a familiar someone trying to reach us.

- hey! toph! erity! its me, zuko. - the boy finally reaches us and rubs the back of his neck. - what are you doing?

- just chatting. - toph supports herself against a locker. - what about you?

- oh! i was passing by and decided to talk to you! - zuko says, dorkyly. did i ever say that boy's kinda dorky when its about social matters?

i decide to try and help him join the conversation:

- toph and i were talking about sports and she said tha- i start, but interrupt myself the moment i see her walking past us.

- why are both of your bloodpressures fast? - toph frowns. i can see by the corner of my eye that zuko's blushing.

- no it's not! how do you know that? - the boy looks at me, his face like a tomato.

- i can feel the vibration with my feet. - toph puts both of her arms around her neck. they start having a discussion, but i don't even care.

mai is here.

- mai! - one of her friends say. - me and my girlfriend are going to the mall today, d'you wanna come too?

- sure. - she responds, with a rough voice, that sounds incredibly beautiful to me.

i wanna talk to her.

i start getting closer to the girl, but i feel someone holding me back.

- what do you think you're doing, erity? - zuko says, raising his eyebrows.

- i'll talk to mai! - i try to get out of his arms, which are stopping me from getting to the girl.

- no you won't. - he rolls his eyes and pulls me in front of him. - do you get that she is one of the most popular girls in school, right? and its kinda hard reaching to her.

- oh, so is mai you have a crush on! - toph laughs. - i've heard many people saying she was cute.

- i dont have a crush on her! - i blush. - i just think she's beautiful. and cool.

- she is cool, for sure. - zuko says.

- what do you mean? - i ask, curious.

- mai is not a nice person, you know? - the boy says and i look at him, curious. - well, she is kinda cold and reserved. even if you did reach to her, it would be kinda hard to make a conversation.

- also, there is the azula factor. - toph adds.

- who is azula? - is it mai's mom? is mai's mom the principal?

- is one of mai's best friends. - toph says. - but she is very posessive. like, she doesn't let any person that she think is not good enough get near her friends.

- oh... - why is it getting harder and harder to reach to the girl i like? - look, this is getting to the point i think y'all are just messing with me, so i'll just go and talk to her, like any normal person would

- you'll embarass yourself! - zuko says, holding me back again. - she is not a normal person. - i look at him, expecting the phrase "she is a vampire" come out of his mouth. - mai is not as sympathetic as you think she is and i dont think she'll go with your face right away, thats hard to happen.

i lower my head, sad that they're not encouraging me.

- relax, dude. - toph taps her hand on my back. - she is a tough person, but that does not mean that you can't get to her.
