confusing

- ok, so we're practicing how i'm going to talk to mai? - i ask, looking at zuko and toph, who were standing in front of me.

- yes. - toph puts her hands on her hips. - i'll be mai, erity will be erity and zuko will analyse everything.

zuko sits in one of the lower benchs of the empty football pitch we're on. is a cold fall day and everyone is wearing sweaters, unless toph, who claims she doesn't need protection.

- you can start! - zuko makes a sign with his hand.

- hi, i'm new at this school and i was wondering with you could help me find the music room. - i'm behind toph, who turns around pretending to be mai.

- sure, i was going there anyways... - the girl says with a rough voice, which makes zuko facepalm.

- so... you also play an instrument? - i look into her eyes, even though she cannot see me.

- i play violin, because i'm quirky and misunderstood. - toph puts the back of her hand in her forehead and fakes sufferment.

- oh! i guess if you're quirky and misunderstood you'll accept to dance with me! - i say with a fancy voice.

- sure, lovergirl!

me and toph start dancing around like we're in a ball and zuko rolls his eyes.

- stop playing around! - he protests. - this is serious!

- more serious than my love for you, dear mai? - i gently grab toph's chin, pretending to be a romantic, but we push away from each other, laughing.

- YES! if you're going to conquer mai you'll have to avoid being goofy!

- conquer mai, huh? - we hear a high pitched voice and turn to look at a brunette girl wearing mostly red and black clothes. - that will take months of training.

toph whispers "azula" to me and i shiver. that girl is scary as fuck.

- the cat ate your tongue, zuzu? - ha, zuzu! i'm going to use that nickname a lot.

- go away, azula! - the boy gets up, angry. - we don't have time for your mean comments right now.

azula gets closer to us and sits near where zuko is.

- why are you being so rude to your little sister, zuzu? well, i wouldn't expect any less of a traitor like you. - little sister? wait! this is mai's posessive best friend, azula! and zuko said mai was his sister's best friend!

- GET OUT! - zuko starts to get stressed. i try to go near him, but instead, he approaches azula.

- no, thank you. - she calmly says and lays back on her seat.

the angry boy groans and tells us to leave the place. just as we're leaving, i hear a voice calling azula.

- azula! there you are! - the voice says. - why are you here? its so cold...

- don't worry, ty lee. i just wanted to look around the school a little bit. - i turn around to see them and notice the two girls kissing.

so azula is hot, mean and sapphic. why is everyone so attractive in this school?

when zuko, toph and i finally arrive at an empty spot, in the library, i ask:

- was that your unpleasant sister?

- yeah... - he runs his hand through his hair. - sorry about that, she is used to being mean to everyone.

- you used to walk with her, didn't you? - toph says.

- i don't really like thinking about that, but yes. - zuko supports himself in a bookshelf. - im not proud to say that i did some really unkind things in the past, but now i've changed.

- glad you did, zuzu. - i smirk.

- don't call me that! - his face starts getting red.

- uh, i guess i just did. - i say with sarcastic tone.

before i can expect anything, zuko grabs the nearest book and hits my head lightly with it.

- are you kidding me?

- uh, i guess i'm not. - he imitates my sarcastic voice with a little smirk.

i immediatly grab another book and hit his arm. we start punching each other with books while toph stands there, stomping her feet.

- are you done yet? - she asks.

i am trying to get up on zuko's back to hit on his head with more accuracy and zuko is beating my back with his book while holding me.

its about to get weirder when we hear a rough voice fill the corridor.

- what the fuck is happening? - zuko and i get away from each other and look at the person.

- m-mai? - i stutter and toph takes away the book i was using to hit zuko and beats the back of my head. - ouch!

- how do you know my name? - the girl crosses her arms and looks at me.

she is looking at me.

- i told her. - zuko says and gets punched in the arm by toph. - ouch! what was that for?

- you two are dorks! - toph facepalms.

mai whispers "weirdos", rolls her eyes and leaves.

- what happened? - toph asks after mai left. - you two acted like total idiots!

- i don't see what i did wrong... - i say, still dreaming about mai.

- you said her name! and she never even saw you! - toph puts her arms up. - and you, zuko. now she'll think that we gossip about her.

- we actually do... - the boy sheepishly says.

- but she didn't have to be aware of that!

we sit on the floor and support ourselves in the bookshelf.

- at least she talked to me! that's a start! - i say and toph gets up.

- i need to get going now. aang told me to meet him so we could go to Geometry together. see y'all later!

the girl walks away, leaving me and zuko alone.

- why do you like mai? - he asks, looking in front of him.

- i don't know... - i try to think of a more acceptable answer. - she's mysterious. i'd like to know her more. what do we have in common, you know?

- i guess i do...

we stay quiet for a little while before zuko looks at me. he doesn't actually say anything, he just keeps staring into my dark green eyes while i look at his golden ones.

my body starts moving involuntarily towards him and zuko seems to be doing the same thing.

our look starts falling and its about to meet our lips, when the bell rings.

- I MUST BE GOING, THEN. - i get up, startled, and say this loudly.

i run out of the library and just stop moving when i get to my locker.

was i about to kiss zuko? it can't be. zuko and i are friends. i actually like mai. but, do i? when zuko asked for the reason i liked her i barely new how to answer. yes, she is mysterious, but does she make me feel whatever i feel when i'm around zuko? i'm falling head over heals for a girl i don't even know.

but zuko and i are friends. if he helped me conquer mai, he can't like me in a romantic way and if he did, he would be a dumbass.

i'm probably just confused. i'm not falling for zuko. he is a dork. an adorable dork, but that's not the point. i'm falling for mai now and i'm not gonna throw away all the efforts that zuko did to help me conquer her.

i gotta stick to the plan.
