(Ash)
Taking in a deep breath I ran the palm of my hand over my eyes and tried to focus on the job at hand. Currently I was sketching out outfits, ideas for my clothing line that I’ve been thinking of. Swiping my pencil down the paper I continued with the design I had going for a bandana.
It was late, almost three in the morning and I was still awake, I shouldn’t be awake. I should be in bed with Lily and sleeping and being ready for tomorrow’s concert and the interview I was doing with Andy. But nope, I couldn’t fall asleep.
Taking a sip from water I continued to sketch, filling the page with designs. Hearing the thump of feet hit the ground I glanced up, watching CC come into the area. He tilted his head upon seeing me still up.
“Couldn’t sleep?” He asked. I shook my head and took another drink. Sitting down in the seat in front of me he glanced at the sketches I had, nodding his head in appreciation.
“What are you doing up?” I asked, glancing up for a second before focusing back down at my paper.
CC shrugged his shoulders. “My bunk got cold, and I just, woke up.” I nodded my head, not really paying attention. A silence fell and because I was doing something, I didn’t feel awkward.
“I miss her.” I heard him whisper. Staring at my paper I closed my eyes shut as I put my pencil down. Swallowing I opened my eyes and nodded my head, finally taking CC in. His eyes weren’t as bright as they normally were; his hair was deflated and had more bags under his eyes than we brought on tour.
“I know you do buddy,” I whispered. “I miss her too.” Lisa had not just kept in contact with Raven, but with all of us. She became all of our friends that painful night when she called. Lisa was just as bright as CC, and had she lived and finally accepted the death of her husband, there may have been hope for CC and Lisa. They had been slowly gravitating towards each other since day one. Now it was day seven of accepting her death.
“Maybe it’s a sign man, maybe I’m not supposed to fall in love. Maybe I’m supposed to be alone for the rest of my life.”
Staring at him I shook my head, “Bullshit.” I snapped, surprising CC, his eyes growing wide as I smacked the table.
“Damn every sign CC. If we went by signs I would be fucking some random girl I found in some strip joint like before. All the signs pointed to me being a man whore for the rest of my life. If we went by every sign we saw none of us would be where we are now. We would have believed the people who bullied us all the fucking time. Andy probably would have either gone into acting or stopped singing after he got put back in public school. You would probably be still working in a hospital, Jinxx would be in some other band and Jake may have started running a music shop.
“If we went by every sign, we wouldn’t be doing the thing we love the most. So fuck the damn signs.” I urged. Leaning back I stared at CC, wondering what made him think that way.
“CC,” I sighed. “You are going to find someone whether it’s next week or next year. And when that girl comes along, you’ll know, trust me, believe me. Yeah, you want someone now, but you already have an army of people who love you right now. They want you to be happy again, to see you crazy and wild again.” Stopping for a breath I saw him slightly nod his head, letting me know that he actually heard me.
“But Ash,” CC licked his lips as he rubbed his hands. “It doesn’t get rid of the pain and hurt that I’m feeling now.” He lifted his gaze from his hands, finally letting me see the pain and tears that were deep in his eyes. Getting up I sat next to him and wrapped my arm around his shoulders and pulled him into a hug.
“I know CC, I know it doesn’t.” I sighed.
He forced out a bark of a chuckle, “I feel like I’m in high school going through my first heartbreak.”
I chuckled as I rubbed his back. “I know the first always fucking hurts.”
He snorted, “That’s what she said.”
I smiled, glad that he was feeling slightly better to find a joke in my words. The silence that we were sitting in was no longer awkward, it was the kind of silence you felt after talking about something you’ve been keeping bottled up for forever. It was one of relief and the exile of the pain you’ve held onto for far too long.
Soon CC started fidgeting so I got up so we were both standing. I was finally starting to feel tired.
“Thanks Ash, I’ll see you in a couple hours.” Nodding my head I stifled a yawn, picking up my papers so it wasn’t messy. Hearing the sound of footsteps returning I furrowed my eyebrows wondering what it was that CC could have forgotten.
“Babe,”
Turning around I saw Lily standing in the entrance, her arms were crossed across her stomach. Releasing the breath I was holding I smiled as she walked into my arms.
“What are you doing up?” I asked.
“You didn’t come to bed, and Raven couldn’t fall asleep so her and I have been talking.” Lily’s voice had me worried. Her voice was always light and carefree, it teased you almost. But now, now it was soft and careful, as if she was walking on eggshells.
Sitting down I looked up at Lily as she placed her hand on my shoulders. “Is something wrong?” I asked. Lily shook her head as she focused on my shoulder, not looking me in the eye. My gut twisted and I took control and kissed her, something was about to happen and it worried me. Some of the worry went away when she kissed me back, but the look in her eyes said something else.
“Ashley,” she whispered. “We need to talk.”
