Guess who decided to make a little visit
Raven
Roaming the streets of Arizona was alright, but was boring as fuck when it’s just you with nobody else to keep you company. The stores I passed held nothing that I liked and the ones that I did were outrageous with their prices. Only one sold star necklaces but they weren’t the kind Purdy and I wore.
“We make our own way,
No thoughts of yesterday
Black hearts of chrome and
Battle scars…”
Stopping in front of some pink store I zooned everyone out and tried to focus on the singing. It so wasn’t coming from the stores near me so it had to be outside. And it was a female singing. She was good.
“…Born from the dream
On leather wings rose
From the streets with
The hand of destiny…”
Pushing past a million people who looked alike, you know, fake boobs, fake tans, fake noses, fake everything. Ashley probably loves the women here now that I think about it. Stopping to listen for the music I sighed. The guitar and singing had stopped.
Great, just great.
Running a hand through my hair, I looked around until I saw a sign for a sandwich shop. It didn’t look all that busy so I would get some peace and quiet for a little bit. I could go to the tour bus but then I would be all alone. The guys were doing a signing and I had wanted to do some exploring. Besides, the guys weren’t the best at keeping the bus clean and I would have spent my whole day cleaning.
Crossing the street I was about to walk straight into the store when I stopped at the sight in front of me. An older girl was sitting in the shade of the overhang playing guitar with her case in front of her. Her fingers were playing the last few cords of The Legacy but she was watching the streets and the people who passed her instead of what notes her fingers where playing. It was as if they had a mind of their own.
She was really, really good.
Then I really looked at her.
And loose black tan top and a pair of severely tattered jeans covered her small frame as a fading blue and green baseball cap was slapped on top of her blond hair. An old backpack was sat protectively next to her.
She was homeless.
As she started to strum another tune I walked into the air conditioned shop that was actually empty. I’ll never understand why most people would prefer to stay in the heat all the time. Walking up to the lady I ordered a heavily filled meat sandwich and a brownie. Thankfully I ordered when I did because just then the lunch crowd filled in.
She was putting her guitar down when I put the sandwich in her case, causing her to stop moving. When she finally looked up I could see the dust on her cheeks, her cheeks were sunken in and her collar bone was sticking out. She looked, surprised to say the least.
I pulled my lips up into a friendly smile before walking away against the crowd to where the bus was. The boys wouldn’t be back but that was fine, I’ll be able to come up with a plan for tomorrow. I can only hope things will work in my favor.
